Met Gala 2021: J. Lo, Ben Affleck and 5 Other Couples Who Shut Down Fashion’s Prom
The Met Gala is back. After getting rescheduled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) celebrities climbed the steps of New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Sept. 13, 2021, for one of fashion’s biggest nights. On the star-studded guest list were the likes of Kim Kardashian West and celebrity couples such as Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck and A$AP Rocky and Rihanna.
1. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
J. Lo and Affleck didn’t make another red carpet — or in this case, beige — appearance together at the Met Gala after showing up at the Venice Film Festival just days earlier. J. Lo walked the steps of the Met solo wearing a custom Ralph Lauren look complete with a cowboy hat to celebrate the event’s theme, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.
The pair, who reunited earlier in 2021 after splitting up in 2004, did meet up inside the event where they posed for photos wearing face masks. The Bennifer 2.0 highlight of the evening? When the “Let’s Get Loud” singer and The Last Duel actor kissed wearing their masks.
2. Nicola Peltz and Brooklyn Beckham
Brooklyn Beckham, the oldest of David Beckham and Victoria Beckham’s four children, is all grown up. The 22-year-old attended the Met Gala with his fiancée, Nicola Peltz. Wearing Valentino — him in a suit and her in a bright pink gown and gloves — the two weren’t afraid of some PDA. Walking the steps hand in hand Beckham kissed Peltz on the cheek.
The pair have been engaged since 2020 when Beckham proposed to the Bates Motel actor with a diamond sparkler said to be worth an estimated $425,000.
3. Taika Waititi and Rita Ora
Linked since April 2021 when reports surfaced the British singer was dating someone new, she and the Oscar-winning director attended the Met Gala together. Taika Waititi donned a suit while the “You For Me” singer wore an embellished ensemble.
4. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello
The 23 and 24-year-old musicians, who have been romantically involved since 2019, attended the Met Gala wearing Michael Kors, according to Variety. Shawn Mendes wore a black outfit with Western-inspired touches while Camila Cabello rocked a purple dress complete with embellishments, feathers, and cutouts.
5. Pharrell Williams and Helen Lasichanh
The “Blurred Lines” singer and his wife of nearly 10 years, Helen Lasichanh, showed up at the 2021 Met Gala in matching outfits. Hashtag couple goals, anyone? Pharrell Williams and the model-designer wore Western-inspired looks complete with bolo ties and boots.
6. Naomi Osaka and Cordae Dunston
Tennis star Naomi Osaka may have hidden her relationship with Cordae Dunston for a year but the pair are hiding no more. Osaka, who co-chaired the event along with Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, and poet Amanda Gorman, walked the beige carpet with her boyfriend. Dunston wore a trench coat while Osaka made a bold statement in a jewel-toned look.
