Michelle Duggar Said She Thinks She and Jim Bob Duggar Are ‘More Blessed’ Than Any Other Couple
We’ve been keeping up with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar for years, and the couple continues to make headlines. The couple’s been together for decades, and they’ve caused quite a ruckus among 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On viewers for their ultra-religious ways and strict house rules. And recently, Michelle talked about how she and Jim Bob are “more blessed” than the average couple. Here’s what she said.
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar believed in having as many kids as possible
The Duggars adore children, and Michelle and Jim Bob purposely had as many children as possible. The couple made it known they don’t believe in birth control, as they trusted in God that they’d have as many children as He wanted them to have without the use of contraception. Not only that, but back when Michelle was on birth control, she had a miscarriage — and she believes the birth control was the cause.
“As conservative Christians, we believe every life is sacred, even the life of the unborn,” Michelle and Jim Bob wrote. “Due to our lack of knowledge, we destroyed the precious life of our unborn child.”
If Michelle and Jim Bob were able to have more children, they would. “We would love more children if God saw fit to give us more,” Michelle said on 19 Kids and Counting. Josie, the 19th Duggar kid, is the couple’s last, though — and she’s now 10 years old.
Michelle said she and Jim Bob are ‘more blessed’ than others
While Michelle and Jim Bob have caused a lot of controversy over the years, they don’t appear to regret any of the attention their family received. They’ve weathered many storms together, especially in the wake of Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal in 2015. And they continue to open themselves up to public scrutiny as they film Counting On. But Michelle thinks they’re truly blessed — and she shared her feelings with Us Weekly.
“I really know that our relationship with God and our close walk with Christ is what holds our marriage together,” she told the publication. “That’s the glue that started our relationship years ago. And I know because of our faith, that is the solid foundation that we have.”
Michelle also mentioned that she feels “more blessed” than others. ““I feel like we are more blessed than any couple,” she added. “I just thank God for his mercy, his kindness and what a joy this journey has been. I know the challenges, but I also know that the great joy that comes walking together in this journey called life.”
The couple provided marriage tips
During the Us Weekly interview, Michelle also mentioned that she’s more in love with Jim Bob than ever. “I am more in love with him than I have ever been,” she added. “He is the man that stands strong and is solid, and then he’s steady. And I’m so grateful that God brought us together 36 years ago.”
So, how do Michelle and Jim Bob stay so strong in their marriage? It seems staying present in the relationship and being consistent with physical intimacy is very important. “In your marriage there will be times you’re going to be very exhausted. Your hubby comes home after a hard day’s work, you get the baby to bed, and he is going to be looking forward to that time with you,” Michelle told Today. “Be available. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls.”
Michelle also mentioned that husbands should treat their wives like “queens,” so it certainly takes two to create the perfect union. While many may snark on the couple’s marriage, it’s clear Michelle and Jim Bob are very thankful to have each other in their lives. We’re sure we’ll see plenty more from them in the future.
