The Witcher: Blood Origin is set 1,200 years before the events of the main series, chronicling the Conjunction of Spheres. A pivotal moment for the Continent, the Conjunction of Spheres is largely responsible for creating the world Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and his companions reside in. When various worlds collided, monsters entered the Continent. Apparently, so did humans.

That was a jarring experience for the elves, and The Witcher: Blood Origin promises to tell their side of the story. The first look at the upcoming prequel highlights stars Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain.

And although Netflix’s teaser trailer for the series doesn’t offer much in the way of plot, it allows all three actors to show off their skills with a sword. Yeoh seems especially powerful. Who does she play in the upcoming show?

Who does Michelle Yeoh play in the Netflix prequel?

Fans of Netflix’s The Witcher are accustomed to following Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) on his many adventures around the Continent. However, The Witcher: Blood Origin promises to give them a whole new slate of characters to obsess over. Among them is Michelle Yeoh’s Scian.

According to Variety, Scian is the only remaining member of a tribe of sword-elves. It seems a blade was taken from her people ahead of the show’s opening, and Scian will spend her time on-screen trying to retrieve it. Sophia Brown’s Éile and Laurence O’Fuarain’s Fjall promise to be powerful allies in this endeavor.

It’s unclear who Scian must track down to find the missing relic, but knowing the elves’ relationship to humans in The Witcher, it’s likely her story will shed some light on how the two groups came to distrust and hate one another.

And seeing Scian and her companions in action is enough to leave viewers wondering when The Witcher: Blood Origin will arrive. Fortunately, fans can look forward to the prequel next year.
