Mila Kunis Revealed the Relatable Reason She and Ashton Kutcher Made a Super Bowl Commercial Together
Mila Kunis and husband Ashton Kutcher are teaming up for a Super Bowl commercial, with two teasers already released for the former That ‘70s Show co-stars. Kunis shared the hilarious reason why they felt like it was the perfect time to work together again.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher star in a Cheetos Super Bowl commercial
Two teaser videos give a hint at the Cheetos Super Bowl commercial that Kunis and Kutcher will appear in on Feb. 7. When they were pitched the idea for the ad, Kunis said it was a no-brainer.
Kunis shared with ET why she and Kutcher wanted to get on board. “It’s so silly! Ashton and I, we never work together,” she explained. “I mean, I know we worked together before … And in the midst of quarantine, they sent us this ad to do and every time I’ve ever been offered a Super Bowl ad it’s always a female having to be scantily clad.”
This one, however, was different — and both she and Kutcher couldn’t pass it up. She continued, “And this one comes around, I started laughing so hard and Ashton was like, ‘This is kind of funny.’ And I was like, ‘We should do it!'”
Kunis revealed the relatable reason they wanted to do the ad
Sure, getting to work together on a funny Super Bowl ad is pretty appealing, but Kunis revealed a really relatable reason why the timing was so good. In short, they wanted to get out of the house and away from parenting for just a bit.
“Also it was quarantine and we were stuck with our children for nine, 12, months at this moment, and I was like, ‘Two days, baby! Two days off.’ Literally we were like, ‘Yeah, OK, let’s do it.’ And so we did it,” Kunis explained. “And I hate saying it but we were like, ‘Freedom!’ … It was amazing!”
She clarified, “I love my children so very much! So, so much!” but admitted that she had “never been so excited to wake up at five in the morning to be like, ‘I’m going to work!’”
“And I literally skipped out of the house. My kids were like, ‘You’re abandoning us!’ And I was like, ‘Relax,’” she added.
Kunis said that the brief time away felt “really weird,” however.
“Our whole family is already co-dependent, so this pandemic just feeds into our entire co-dependency,” Kunis noted. “And my husband and I were super co-dependent for like eight years and in this pandemic our kids are like, ‘Where are you going?” And I was like, ‘The bathroom.’ We haven’t left each other. We’re in the house. Yeah, it was really weird for them. They forgot that we have to go out of the house…”
Kunis and Kutcher first kissed on TV
Kunis and Kutcher played Jackie Burkhart and Michael Kelso on That ’70s Show, which Kunis started on when she was just 14. Kunis told People in 2001 that she had a crush on Kutcher and shared her first kiss with her co-star on-screen.
“I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so cute, it’s the Calvin Klein model!,” she explained. “Then, I was like, ‘I have to kiss him?’ I was so nervous and uncomfortable. I had the biggest crush on him.”
Kutcher shared at the time that he didn’t know it was her first kiss. “I’m so glad I didn’t know that or it would’ve been too much pressure,” he noted. “I was so nervous. She acted so cool. She seemed as if she’d done it a thousand times. I was the one with the butterflies in my stomach. I mean, here’s this little girl and I have to kiss her. It was nerve-racking.”
