Following the critical and box office success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, questions and theories surrounding a live-action interpretation as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe continue to surface. Miles Morales is a lovable take on Spidey and a comic book favorite. However, Tom Holland remains the MCU’s beloved Peter Parker; thus replacing Holland’s Parker with Morales could lead to a little push back.

Fans may get to have their cake and eat it too, for recent insider reports suggest that both could appear on the silver screen — as part of different universes, fighting the baddies in different timelines.

A live-action ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ franchise featuring Miles Morales may be on the horizon

According to Marvel and DC Insider Mikey Sutton, a live-action Spider-Verse film is in the works, or, at least, discussions surrounding the project have begun. Sutton notes that the current plans surrounding a Spider-Verse film including Tobey Maguire’s version of Spider-Man.

In this film, Miles Morales will be introduced, and Tobey Maguire’s Parker will die, under the direction of Sam Raimi (who happens to be directing the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).

If Tobey’s Spidey dies, Miles Morales will be left to take over for his Peter Parker in his specific universe — operating in a parallel world to the current MCU timeline. In short, time is about to become a concept destined to mess with fans’ minds following the Multiverse of Madness. The end of the live-action Spider-Verse movie will reportedly lead to an Ultimate Spider-Man franchise featuring Morales as the focal point.

What will happen in the reported ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ movies?

The Ultimate Spider-Man movies will differ from the Tom Holland-led franchise to avoid mimicry and reliance on uninspired formula. According to Sutton, the films will also feature Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen as a romantic interest. And, the romantic pair could go onto fight crime side-by-side. However, the series will start with a superhero origin story to highlight Miles Morales’ journey to savior status (from a young boy with powers he doesn’t quite understand to a world hero). Sutton explained:

Morales will be paired with Spider-Gwen in a contemporary twist on the original Silver Age story arc. As with Morales, Spider-Gwen already exists; there is no long origin story. Sony will be releasing this movie but apparently Kevin Feige is seriously interested in producing this himself, another extension of Disney’s relationship with that company.

According to Sutton, these films will not replace Tom Holland’s Spidey but serve to supplement the Marvel film landscape. The character will be a new spidey — a breath of fresh air. Since Hollywood takes on the web-slinger, up to this point, have largely focused on Peter Parker only, Morales will provide a new and unique live-action Spidey interpretation.
