Spider-Man: No Way Home is right around the corner, but Sony just gave Spider-Man fans something new to look forward to beyond Tom Holland’s next outing as Peter Parker. The company dropped the first teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the highly anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — and it also revealed that Miles Morales’ next adventure will be broken up into two parts. Following the big news, fans are feeling confident about the character’s on-screen future.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ trailer shows an older Miles Morales

Sony’s teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse suggests some time has passed between the upcoming sequel and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The first look opens with Miles Morales in his bedroom. And he’s definitely grown up a bit since fans last saw him.

That fact is exacerbated by his clear interest in dating. When Gwen Stacy shows up, she finds he’s been drawing pictures of her in his spare time. The two look to have a compelling dynamic in the upcoming film. Her arrival promises more from her character, as well as more multiverse-hopping shenanigans.

Some of the latter appears in the teaser, too, with Miles butting heads with Spider-Man 2099. It’s unclear what the root of their feud is, but one thing seems certain: plenty of fan-favorite characters will show up when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuts.

The teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse gives fans plenty of reasons to be excited — but so does the revelation that this film will be Part One. That means Sony already has plans for another movie after this one. If nothing else, we can assume Miles Morales’ future in the franchise is set.

That probably comes as no surprise after the success of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The 2018 film remains one of the most highly praised Spider-Man movies, winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2019. It also made $375.5 million at the global box office. Clearly, there is viewer interest in Miles Morales’ Spider-Man story. The real question is whether or not Marvel Studios will get involved with the character.

While the animated take on Miles will continue, fans are also wondering if they could see a live-action iteration of the character after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) tearing open the multiverse leaves the possibility on the table.

That means fans don’t have long to wait before diving into Part One of this film. Then, they’ll have Part Two to look forward to — along with whatever else Sony has planned for Miles down the line.
