Although Simpson admitted that Cyrus was his “celebrity crush,” it seems as though nothing romantic happened until after Cyrus’s split from Liam Hemsworth in the summer of 2019.
Cyrus certainly had a busy summer. Following her breakup from Hemsworth, her husband of just under one year, she enjoyed a whirlwind romance with reality television star Kaitlynn Carter, who was fresh from her marriage to fellow reality star Brody Jenner.
Cyrus and Carter were together for only a matter of weeks before rumors spread that they had broken up and Cyrus was spotted making out with Cody Simpson in early October. Simpson and Cyrus celebrated their first Christmas together as a couple — first by joining Cyrus’s whole family for a gathering and then by exchanging sweet gifts with each other. Simpson gifted Cyrus with a gold skull necklace, captioning the photo of the necklace, “museum quality for my queen.”
He also posted a video of Cyrus twerking, calling the video “wholesome Christmas content.” If their goal was to shut the critics down, they definitely accomplished it.
