Did Miley Cyrus Respond to Billy Ray Cyrus’ Post About Melania Trump?
Artists Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus are among the most famous father-daughter musical pairings in the entertainment industry. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have disagreements. How does Miley Cyrus feel about her dad recently sharing a photo of himself with First Lady Melania Trump?
Miley Cyrus is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus
Miley Cyrus got her start in show business at a young age, in part due to her dad’s fame. She was cast as the lead character (named Miley for her) in the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana, while Billy Ray Cyrus played her TV dad, Robby Ray, modeled after himself.
Though they don’t act opposite one another these days, Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray Cyrus continue to have both a personal and working relationship. The father-daughter duo has performed together on multiple occasions, such as their 2019 Glastonbury Festival appearance (above).
Miley Cyrus is against the Trump administration
Miley Cyrus has made her thoughts on the 45th president of the U.S. perfectly clear in the past. In a 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, while discussing her pre-election declaration that she would leave the country if he were elected, the singer deemed Donald Trump “a completely racist, sexist, hateful asshole.”
Miley Cyrus remains engaged in the current discourse, though she typically interacts with Democratic politicians. While hosting her Instagram Live Show Bright Minded: Live With Miley during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, she spoke with Senator Elizabeth Warren, whom she called one of her “personal heroes.”
Billy Ray Cyrus shared a photo of he and Melania Trump
In the weeks leading up to election day, Trump was among many who tested positive for coronavirus following an event at the White House. Though the president kept the world abreast of his condition, little was shared about his wife, Melania Trump, who also tested positive.
“Hope you are feeling better @FLOTUS,” Billy Ray Cyrus wrote in a social media post shared on October 8, 2020. “This photo was almost exactly a year ago. Thank you again for the compassion and time you shared with Channing’s Dad and his [brother]. #BeBest #SuicidePrevention”
Read Billy Ray Cyrus’ response to the backlash
When Billy Ray Cyrus shared the photo and the well-wishes for Melania Trump, some took this as a message that he supported her husband’s administration and campaign for reelection. “The picture I posted with Melania was not an endorsement, but a reflection on a special moment I had human to human with her,” he explained.
The country star then proceeded to explain times in which he’s interacted with past presidents on both sides of the aisle. “All of this leads me to the point that I am not telling you who to vote for, nor will I ever tell you who to vote for,” he continued. “But I AM telling you that your vote matters and is to be cherished.”
So, did Miley Cyrus respond to her father’s message? As of the time of publication on October 9, 2020, Cyrus had not engaged with either post on Twitter. So it’s unclear exactly what her feelings are regarding her dad’s experience with the first lady or his bi-partisan proclamation.
