Million Dollar Listing’s Fredrik Eklund Reveals Why He’s Sleeping Better in L.A.
Fredrik Eklund from Million Dollar Listing may butt heads with the Los Angeles brokers, but he’s not losing any sleep over it – thanks to his dreamy new bedroom.
Eklund, husband Derek Kaplan, and four-year-old twins, Milla and Freddy recently moved from their sprawling mansion seen on the show to their “forever home” nestled in Beverly Hills. Eklund gushed about the home’s design, sharing that the unusual, but happy color scheme they chose makes him feel like a happier – and better rested – broker, husband, and father.

Eklund went with soft colors, highlighted with plenty of pink hues. The bedroom alone just makes Eklund feel happy. “I’m very, very happy, I’m happy,” he told Architectural Digest. “I sleep better, I wake up a little earlier. And at night time I’m in heaven under the trees in the backyard. I feel really zen.”
He describes the home as “a happy house. You know.” Adding, “When you leave from here, you kind of want to go back.” The color scheme is a departure from the multi-million dollar homes he shows on the series. But that’s the way Eklund wanted his home to look and feel. However, when it came time to design the interior, Eklund and Kaplan weren’t sure how far to take their happy color scheme. “We love happy, bright colors, we just didn’t know how far we wanted to take it,” he admitted.

Eklund approached the home design with the same gusto in which he trailblazed his way into the L.A. market. “I knew from the beginning that I wanted to push the envelope a little bit, Derek and I fully agreed on that,” Eklund said.
And added, “We didn’t really care what anybody else thinks,” he remarked. “To say it doesn’t have to be right for anybody else, it just has to be right for us—that gave us freedom.”
The word “happy” doesn’t fully describe the property. The pink and soft blue color scheme is punctuated with rainbows on a bookcase and also on the doormat. Bottom line, Eklund wanted his home to reflect pure joy. “I walked in at, like, 10 a.m. on a Saturday morning, it was Christmastime,” he recalled. “And I fell in love with the layout. It was flawless—for us.”
Eklund also said that the design should accommodate his late grandmother’s table. “We shipped it over, and I kept saying to Paris, ‘You have to incorporate it,’” he said. “It worked perfectly; I feel like my grandmother is present somehow.”

Eklund offered a photographic tour of his new home on Instagram. “OUR NEW HOME!” he captioned the series of photos. “Thanks @archdigest for your visit – link in bio to the article and for more photos. We call it the COLOR HOUSE. We incorporated our family art, my grandmother’s (RIP [heart emoji]) special red table I always loved as a child and created a primary suite and kids bedrooms all in hues of blush and baby blue.” He added, “We hope you love it as much as we do!” Sharing that the family calls it their “forever home.”
Kaplan added in the thread, “Our warm cosy cocoon.”
Eklund said he feels so at home. “This setting here, talking, seeing the kids, cooking, smelling, hearing their laughter—it’s really beautiful, it’s a real home,” he shared with AD. “When you say color, sometimes people think of, like, maximum, very crazy. And that’s not what we wanted. Everything is soft.”
