Mindy Kaling Tweets Her Thanks to Fans For Their Love and Support of Her Newborn Son: ‘I’m Outnumbered Now’
The Office star Mindy Kaling tweeted out to her fans recently to thank them for the love and good wishes expressed for her new son, Spencer.
Kaling, 41, just announced this week that she was pregnant throughout the pandemic quarantine and gave birth in September.
She’s delighted to have her son, and she’s grateful. Here’s what she had to say.
Mindy Kaling expressed her gratitude to her fans
After shocking her fans with the news that she gave birth in Sept. 2020 to a baby boy, Mindy Kaling is now conveying her heartfelt thanks for their good wishes for her growing family. Born on Sept. 3, her new child’s name is Spencer.
Not only did Kaling express her thanks; she also shared some of the fear she experienced in being pregnant and giving birth during the perilous time the world is going through.
“Thanks to everyone for your kind words about the new addition to my family,” she said in her tweet. “Being pregnant during the pandemic was a little scary, but it made me appreciate all the doctors, nurses and medical professionals who continue to work tirelessly giving treatment to those who need it, putting their own lives at risk.”
Kaling also shared a bit on how her daughter, Katherine, almost 3 years of age, is faring with her little brother.
“Spencer is happy and healthy and his sister is obsessed with him (well, his toys),” she said. “It’s been so fun having him in the house, I almost forget I’m outnumbered now. Love and grateful hugs.”
Her surprise announcement
Kaling shocked so many during her appearance this week on A Late Show With Stephen Colbert with her announcement that she gave birth, just weeks ago.
As Colbert introduced her, he said to Kaling, “I got something I rarely get these days, which is good news. Which, if you wouldn’t mind sharing with our audience, I think they’d be thrilled to find out something extraordinary that nobody knows, up until this moment.”
The star of The Mindy Project said, “Yes! I’m telling it for the first time right now, it feels so strange, but I gave birth to a baby boy on Sept. 3.”
“This is news to a lot of people, it’s true,” she added.
Building a family is important to Kaling
The now mom-of-two has family on her mind, clearly. She has in the past been vocal about how important her relationship with her mother was to her. Kaling’s mother died in 2012 of pancreatic cancer.
Speaking with Sunday Today‘s Willie Geist in 2017, Kaling was at the time expecting her daughter, Katherine, and opened up about her hopes of being as supportive a mother as her own was to her.
“My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did,” she told Geist. “My career choice was not something that she was familiar with and she was just so supportive of that. And if I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I’d be so happy.”
