Miranda Lambert had a challenging time recovering after her divorce from Blake Shelton. But what might’ve delayed her healing even further was receiving uncomfortable questions about Shelton’s new lover Gwen Stefani.

It didn’t take long for Shelton to get a second opportunity at love after breaking up with Lambert. The two announced they were going their separate ways on July, 2015 after being together for 10 years, four of which they spent married. Both decided to channel their heartbreak through their music. Shelton got everything he needed to off of his chest through songs like “Came Here to Forget” and “She’s Got a Way With Words.” Meanwhile, Lambert sung about her own divorce experience with the record “I Got My Name Changed Back.”

However, Shelton started dating the new love of his life, Stefani, only months after announcing his divorce from Lambert. The Oklahoma native has frequently credited Stefani for helping him through his heartbreak when they first met on The Voice in 2014.

“It’s not something that anybody could have seen coming, besides God, I guess,” Shelton once told Entertainment Tonight. “It doesn’t look like it would make sense, you know? But all I can tell you is, it does, it just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we’re at in our lives.”

However, Lambert wouldn’t meet her own soulmate, Brendan McLoughlin, until 2018. Before then, Lambert had to turn to her music to help her move past her ex. But when the topic of Shelton and Stefani came up in interviews, Lambert couldn’t help but lash out a little. Especially when, at the time, Lambert simply wanted to talk about her art.

“When the music was out, people had listened, I got on the phone for the first interview. First question was, ‘How do you feel about Gwen?’ I hung up. I told [manager] Marion, I just can’t do this,” she once told Hits Daily Double. “What was in the music was real, and I wanted people to get it from that. Take from it what they would. Then if I needed to talk, I would. But I haven’t really. Until now.”

It’s still unclear what exactly caused Lambert and Shelton’s divorce. Rumors of an affair kept orbiting around the two, but the former couple never emphatically confirmed this was the case. Hints of their relationship issues, however, might’ve been touched on in a 2014 joint interview they did with Marie Claire.

“Blake says I’m complicated, but, I mean, all girls are,” Lambert said.

But Shelton claimed he meant it more as a term of endearment than anything else.

“She was like, ‘What the hell is that supposed to mean?’ But it is the best way I know to describe her. Holy s***, man. That’s what I admire about her. Her complications,” Shelton clarified.

Whatever the case, if sources are to be believed, Lambert might’ve seen Shelton and Stefani’s eventual romance coming sooner than anyone else did.

“She was not surprised to hear of the romance between Blake and Gwen. They were always pretty flirty,” a source once explained to E! News. “Miranda and Blake were on the rocks on and off and knew that this could always be a possibility.”

However, the source alleged that Lambert had no ill feelings towards Stefani either way.

“Blake is just a flirty kind of charmer,” the source added. “She has nothing against Gwen and thinks she is a very talented artist. Whomever Blake is with she wishes them the best.”
