Haley Dunphy has a unique personality

Haley has kept fans laughing for over 10 years with her crazy antics. At the start of the series, she is a stereotypical teenager who is into fashion, boys, and social clout. Later on, she matured into a young woman with her own job and family.

Haley is often portrayed as ditzy and naive. Unlike her sister Alex (Ariel Winter), Haley gets poor grades in school and is often slower than others to understand things.

However, Haley is also likable with fans. Though she may drive her family members mad with her irresponsible ways, she has shown many times that she does care about them. Additionally, Haley sometimes breaks her ditzy image to show that she can be hurt by others’ actions, which makes her relatable and human.

Sarah Hyland said she only relates to Haley in 1 way

Despite portraying Haley for many years, Hyland has admitted that she does not relate to her character very much. In fact, the only thing she and Haley have in common is that they are both “not good at cooking.”

“As for Haley, I thought she was funny, but I didn’t relate to her a lot,” Hyland wrote in an essay for Glamour. “I don’t know how she goes about life because I’m more like Claire. I think the only time I ever really connected with Haley was the episode where she’s not good at cooking.”

Even so, many people do seem surprised when they meet Hyland and realize she is not Haley.

She continued, “It was so interesting when people would meet me in person, because they had this idea of how I was supposed to be. A lot of times I would hear, ‘You’re so much smaller in person!’ Or, ‘You’re smarter than she is. You can carry a conversation.’ People forget you’re not like your character.”

In an interview with Elle, Hyland was also asked if there is anything from Haley’s closet she would keep or throw out. Apparently, Hyland and Haley do not share the same style either.

“I would throw out some dresses that Haley wears, because they’re too girly and just not my style,” Hyland said. “But there’s a bunch of sweaters that I’m obsessed with. I love a chunky sweater!”

Modern Family wrapped up filming in early 2020. Since then, Hyland has not taken on many new TV or movie projects.

Right now, she hosts the segment Lady Parts for The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She also posts a lot on social media, including TikTok.

Because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Hyland has been mostly quarantining at home. Hyland is part of an at-risk population; she underwent kidney transplants and is on immunosuppressants, which means she could get severe complications from a COVID-19 infection.

In March, Hyland revealed that she got the COVID-19 vaccine. She shared on Instagram, “As a person with comorbidities and on immunosuppressants for life, I am so grateful to receive this vaccine. I am still remaining safe and following cdc guidelines but once I receive my second dose? I will feel safe enough to go out every once in a while… GROCERY STORE HERE I COME!”
