‘Money Heist’: Why Álvaro Morte Had to Audition 5 Times For the Role of Professor
Money Heist fans couldn’t imagine anyone else but Álvaro Morte playing The Professor. Sergio Marquina, better known as The Professor, is the mastermind behind the Royal Mint of Spain Heist. However, there was a moment where the show’s creators didn’t want Morte for the role. Here’s how the actor landed the role of The Professor in the Netflix series Money Heist, also known as La Casa de Papel.
‘Money Heist’ creators had a different image for The Professor
Initially, the Money Heist creators wanted an older man to play The Professor in the series. According to OSSA, the creators wanted to cast a “senior” actor for the part – more specifically, someone who looked like an “old Harvard Professor.”
But, the casting director had a different image in mind and suggested Álvaro Morte for the part. During the audition process, Morte channeled George Clooney from Ocean’s Eleven. But it didn’t work out. He auditioned for more than two months for the role. Eventually, he nailed the character on the fifth attempt. Morte ultimately landed the role of the heist leader, The Professor.
What’s next for The Professor in ‘Money Heist’ Vol. 2?
In Money Heist: Part 5 Vol.1, Inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) captured the mastermind. However, her pregnancy changed her initial plans. Ultimately, she lets the Professor deliver her baby and lets him go. After their encounter, the Professor went missing. His whereabouts have been unknown – until the second trailer for Money Heist Vol. 2 was released.
The trailer begins with the Professor coming out of hiding and arriving at the Bank of Spain. While surrounded by law enforcement, he enters the building. The following scenes show him crying out in pain and picking up a gun. This behavior is unusual for the Professor. Since he is a man of wit, picking up a weapon is out of character for him. Now that the gang is trapped in the bank, what is the Professor’s escape plan?
What should fans expect from the final installment?
While the Netflix series Money Heist is coming to an end, fans want to know how the story will end. So, what should fans expect from the final season? According to Digital Spy, Money Heist creator Álex Pina shared the final installment will focus on the “emotional situation” of the characters.
“We decided to work in an extremely aggressive genre, putting The Gang on the ropes. In Volume 2, we focus more on the emotional situation of the characters,” Pina said in a statement. “It is a journey across their sentimental map that connects us directly to their departure.”
Per Netflix, the official synopsis for Money Heist Vol. 2 reads, “Just when it seems like nothing else could go wrong, an enemy comes on the scene that is much more powerful than any they’ve faced: the army. The end of the greatest heist in history is approaching. And what began as a robbery will turn into a war.”
Money Heist Part 5 Vol. 2 premieres on Netflix on Dec. 3.
