‘Morbius’ Post-Credits Scenes Teased the Sinister Six – Who Could Other the Villains Be?
If the Morbius post-credits scenes are anything to go off, Sony Pictures is trying for a Sinister Six movie again. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe shot off to success over the years, Sony has struggled to craft a team-up film of Spider-Man villains, including Morbius and Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture. However, with the moderate success of Tom Hardy’s Venom movies and Jared Leto‘s Morbius performing almost exactly as projected, they might finally get the project off the ground. However, what Marvel villains could join in a Sinister Six line-up?
WARNINGS: SPOILERS FOR ‘MORBIUS’ AHEAD
The ‘Morbius’ post-credits scene hinted at Adrian Toomes and Morbius as the first 2 Spider-Man villains for the team
Sony has tried to get a Spider-Man Universe going for years. Before Morbius, Sinister Six hints were dropped in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) could have teamed up with Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, the Green Goblin, and more.
Garfield even mentioned the Rhino in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire reminisced about their strangest villains.
However, the initial plans to bring the Sinister Six to screen never took hold. If Morbius reviews do not get in the way, it could provide a new start.
When Spider-Man: Homecoming villain Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) confronted Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) in the second post-credits scene, he suggested a team-up. And it seemed that Morbius would accept, making them the first two Sinister Six members.
Tom Hardy’s Venom could join Morbius and the Vulture in the Sinister Six
Sony hasn’t featured any substantial crossover between Venom and Morbius yet. However, it hasn’t been a secret that Sony wants to build their own Marvel Universe. They have said that Adrian Toomes joined Morbius, Venom, Carnage, and even a version of Spider-Man in the connected Sony Universe.
Venom and Morbius’ post-credits scenes still have more connections to the MCU and Doctor Strange than each other, though.
In Marvel Comics, Venom has fought with the Sinister Six on occasion. However, he is not usually associated with the group. Meanwhile, Morbius has never joined the Sinister Six.
Sony has definitely opened the ranks for a Sinister Six movie that even comics fans could never have predicted.
Who else could join the Spider-Man villain team-up?
The Morbius post-credits scene teased Adrian Toomes, Morbius, and Venom could make up half of the Spider-Man villain team. However, that leaves the question of who else could join the Sinister Six.
Plenty of fans theorized the star of The Amazing Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield, Morbius, and Venom all take place in the same universe. However, Sony has not confirmed this. And while Garfield said he did not have plans to return as Spidey, Sony could bring Giamatti’s Rhino back.
Jamie Foxx brought Electro back in Spider-Man: No Way Home with some upgrades. Even Rhys Ifans returned as Curt Connors, aka The Lizard.
With Doctor Strange opening up the multiverse in No Way Home, Venom 2, and Morbius’ end-credits scene, Sony could realistically pull any Spider-Man villain from any continuity they want, including the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb movies.
Sony also has the Madame Web movie planned, which could introduce even more Sinister Six members beyond Morbius, Vulture, and Venom.
For now, fans need to keep their eye on the Sony Spider-Man Universe to see what sinister thing comes next.
