Brad Pitt Reveals What It Was Truly Like Working With Quentin Tarantino on ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’
With Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on the horizon, and controversy endlessly swarming Quentin Tarantino, many fans are curious as to the director’s on-set behavior and approach.
Tarantino has been facing criticism regarding Margot Robbie’s limited dialogue as Sharon Tate in Tarantino’s penultimate film (so he says) – as well as the on-set incident involving his negligence to Uma Thurman’s injury sustained while filming Kill Bill.
So, is Quentin Tarantino a power-hungry director with an ego that needs to be checked? Is the director hard to work with? Does he make unreasonable demands and push actors too far?
Brad Pitt sat down with Leonardo DiCaprio for an interview with FAB TV, and he revealed what it was like working with Quentin Tarantino. Though hailed as a cutting-edge director, Tarantino is also quite the contentious filmmaker, creating movies that push boundaries and question societal orthodoxies. However, are the thematic boundaries the only ones getting pushed?

Speaking on behalf of Quentin Tarantino, as well as the dynamic between the cast and crew, Brad Pitt told FAB TV:
“First of all, his set, it’s just a joy. He loves cinema so much, as you know, and loves talking about it…There’s a great verve and energy on the set; it’s unlike any others. And then working together [referencing the whole crew] it was just real automatic for us. I can’t describe it more than that. It was just really easy and a good laugh. We came on the scene around the same time. We have a lot of the same references, and we all know the same people. He’s just really giving and generous. You see that in the film.”

So, as far as Brad Pitt is concerned, it seems that Quentin Tarantino is quite an enjoyable film buff. Despite having quite the mixed reputation, most actors who have worked, or continue to work with Tarantino, have applauded his knack for storytelling, his knowledge regarding cinema, and his indisputable directorial ingenuity.
While often considered an artist for art’s sake, his movies never struggle to sell tickets. However, despite the positive energy on set, one of Tarantino’s behaviors may have been a little bothersome.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt explained to Fab TV that, in addition to reading through the entire script, they had to sit through a very detailed account of their characters, their relationship, and their history together (provided by Tarantino himself).
Explaining how the movie is a “love letter to the community that we love and have hated at times,” Brad Pitt gets to the heart of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and likely the heart of Quentin Tarantino’s greatest flaw (and attribute).
As a Hollywood connoisseur, Tarantino has been deemed quite the perfectionist. It’s no surprise that he inundated the actors with an entire backstory, for he likely possesses a clear image of exactly how he wants each scene to appear on the screen.
The hyper-alertness may present difficulties at times, for established actors are normally expected to be competent concerning when it comes to getting into character. However, many actors seem to understand this Tarantino tendency as an aspect of working with the famed director. However, as far as his treatment of other actors and actresses, Pitt’s adulation does not clear his name.
If you were looking for a juicy beratement from Pitt, there were no complaints on his front. And as for DiCaprio, he has worked with Tarantino more than once, and he is one of the director’s greatest advocates.
