MCU Co-Stars Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie Are Teaming Up Again
The MCU films boast a talent roster that is a virtual who’s who in Hollywood. From neophyte actors to classic stars, the MCU bench is deep. Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie are among the actors who have appeared in several movies in the franchise. Jackson stars as Avengers architect Nick Fury, while Mackie stars as the flying hero, Falcon, who is Captain America’s BFF. Now, these two actors are teaming up for a new project.
Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie in The ‘Banker’
MCU fans are used to seeing Jackson and Mackie suiting up and saving lives. In their new movie, the two actors are still helping others, but the dress code is much different for their characters in The Banker.
The Banker is a civil rights drama inspired by actual events. In the film, Mackie portrays a man who devises a plan to buy banks and lend money to Blacks, who otherwise may not have been able to secure loans. Jackson’s character is the business partner and voice of candid reason.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Did I not wake up Black this morning?” Jackson bellows in one scene. “Cause I’m pretty sure I did. Yep. Still Black.”
As seen in the trailer, Jackson brings his trademark brand of authentic swagger to the film, while Mackie delivers buttoned-up prowess. The two actors have amassed a combined 259 acting credits, and their talent shines through in every performance.
Anthony Mackie, from ‘8 Mile’ to ‘Avengers: Endgame‘
Mackie crashed onto the scene in the hip-hop flick, 8 Mile opposite Eminem. He portrayed Papa Doc, a freestyle rapper up against the hero of the film. From there, the actor scored a string of big-screen roles, including high-profile movies like The Manchurian Candidate, Million Dollar Baby, and The Hurt Locker.
In 2014, Mackie became a part of the MCU when he co-starred in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He has appeared in six of the franchise’s films so far and is currently filming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a new series that is a part of the MCU.
Samuel L. Jackson, Hollywood OG
Early in his career, Jackson became a familiar face in cinema, particularly as an actor who was frequently cast in Spike Lee films. By the ‘90s, he had appeared in the first Jurassic Park movie, the third Die Hard installment, and a Star Wars prequel. Some of Jackson’s most iconic roles were in Quinton Tarantino films, like Pulp Fiction. His famous “Say what again” tirade in the movie became a pop culture gem.
In 2008’s Iron Man, Jackson appeared for the first time as his MCU alter ego, Nick Fury. He went on to play the character in 11 films. The acting legend has worked consistently since his debut and continues to deliver powerhouse performances.
The Banker hits theaters Friday, March 6, and will be available to Apple TV+ subscribers on March 20.
