‘Ms. Marvel’: Fawad Khan Adds ‘Gravitas’ to the Series Says Showrunner Sana Amanat
The Marve Cinematic Universe series Ms. Marvel features notable South Asian stars, including Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. And according to the series’ showrunner, Khan adds “gravitas” to the Disney+ show with his secret role.
Who is ‘Ms. Marvel’ star Fawad Khan?
Khan is a Pakistani actor and singer who rose to fame in the late ’90s as the frontman for the rock band Entity Paradigm. He started acting in the early 2000s and appeared in several Pakistani TV shows, including Jutt and Bond.
But Khan’s breakthrough came in 2011 with the Urdu drama Humsafar. The actor’s performance earned him a fan following worldwide and allowed him to cross over into Bollywood movies.
Khan starred in blockbuster Hindi films such as Kapoor & Sons, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Khoobsurat. The latter earned him several accolades, including a Filmfare Award.
Often lauded for his looks, Khan earned the title of “Most Beautiful Man” at Vogue India’s Beauty Awards in 2015. And in 2021, TC Candler named him one of the most “handsome faces” in the world.
Khan will appear in the upcoming Pakistani film, The Legend of Maula Jatt. Ms. Marvel serves as the actor’s Hollywood debut.
He adds ‘gravitas’ to ‘Ms. Marvel,’ teases showrunner
The extent of Khan’s role in Ms. Marvel remains under wraps. But according to the show’s creator and showrunner Sana Amanat, the actor will add a little grandeur to the series.
“I’m a huge fan,” she told India Today when talking about Khan and the series’ other South Asian stars, Farhan Akhtar, Mehwish Hayat, and Samina Ahmed. “So, it was very exciting for me.”
“What’s really cool is that — outside of the diaspora communities, I don’t think that much of the Western world really understands or knows [these] great actors who have had long careers. For us, that’s really incredible to be able to have them in our show. It gives a different kind of gravitas to the whole show because of their stature and how great they are.”
Fawad Khan reveals how much he enjoyed working on ‘Ms. Marvel’
Khan stays mum about his Ms. Marvel role. But when talking to Film Companion, the actor revealed he had tons of fun filming the project.
“It’s a wonderful experience, it was good fun,” Khan said. “The cast that I worked with, the people that I worked with, it was good fun, but I am sorry, I cannot say anything more than that at this point in time.”
Khan’s role hasn’t been revealed yet. But according to his IMDb page, he plays a character named Hasan in the Marvel series.
Because no character by that name appears in Ms. Marvel comics, it’s safe to assume it was created specifically for the show. After seeing how Kamala (Iman Vellani) inherits her superpowers through her grandmother’s bracelet, some fans think Hasan could be Kamala’s grandfather and may appear in a flashback scene.
Luckily, fans will soon be acquainted with Khan and his new character. New episodes of Ms. Marvel drop Wednesdays on Disney+.
