The greatest band in the world is back with new music and a North America-based tour. There’s plenty for MUNA fans to look forward to, with the group announcing their third, self-titled album set for a 2022 release.

MUNA remixed MARINA’s “Man’s World” and appeared as a supporting act along Kacey Musgraves’ Star-Crossed: Unveiled tour. In 2022, this trio debuted their single “Anything But Me.”

“Breaking up is hard to do,” MUNA began their Instagram caption. “In the past, we’ve stayed in relationships for a long time, waiting until we hit low lows to admit it was over. ‘Anything But Me’ is a song about leaving a partnership simply because it doesn’t feel right.”

“It’s about trusting yourself and your instincts enough to walk away from someone while you still have love for each other and before it gets too bad,” the post continued. “The video for the song plays with the idea that we’ve been our own captors in relationships, keeping ourselves in unhealthy dynamics, maybe because that’s what feels familiar.”

Since its release, the “Anything But Me” Spotify track earned over 425 thousand plays. The YouTube music video, which included cowboy-esque choreography and Jo’s “charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent” shirt, also received thousands of views.

MUNA announced their self-titled album would debut on June 24, 2022

“Anything But Me” is just one song included on MUNA’s upcoming self-titled album, which the group announced along with a North America-based tour. Thanks to a picture on Instagram, fans learned that this 2022 album will have 11 songs, separated into a “side 1” and “side 2.”

The album’s first song will be the already released track “Silk Chiffon,” featuring “Motion Sickness” artist Phoebe Bridgers. Side 1 includes “What I Want,” “Runner’s High,” Home by Now,” “Kind of Girl.”

Side 2 features “Handle Me,” “No Idea,” Solid,” “Loose Garment,” and “Shooting Star.” The second side of this album will also include the 2022 single “Anything But Me.” The last full-length album released by MUNA was Saves the World, which premiered in 2019. MUNA will be available for streaming (and purchase) beginning on June 24, 2022.

Fans reacted to MUNA’s ‘Anything But Me’

Since announcing new music and their tour, several dates have already sold out. For New York City, a second also sold out of tickets, leading to a third show at the same venue. Of course, fans praised “Anything But Me,” taking to social media to share their appreciation for the single and its lyrics.

“Another instant exuberant queer anthem upon arrival. Nobody’s doing it like them,” one Reddit user noted, while another added, “this is such a cute bop I wanna drive to with the windows down in the summer.”

“‘You’re gonna say that I’m on a high horse. I think that my horse is regular-sized. Did you ever think maybe you’re on a pony going in circles on a carousel ride?’ Katie is one of the best lyricists in music. Period,” another fan wrote in the Reddit thread.
