Weight loss is a struggle for millions of people, but many only have a few pounds that they need to lose. My 600-lb Life documents the stories of people who suffer from morbid obesity that impacts their entire life — and often those of their friends and family as well. Each week, the TLC series follows a year in the life of one person and their journey to reclaim their health through diet, exercise, and often, weight loss surgery. The people featured on the show are under the supervision of Dr. Nowzaradan, a Houston-based surgeon who guides them along the way. Most fans of the show remember Olivia Cruz, and are wondering one thing: What happened to her since her time on My 600-lb Life?

Success isn’t guaranteed on ‘My 600-lb Life’

For those who have not seen the show, let’s do a quick breakdown of what it is all about. Each person that is featured on the show starts off at about 600 pounds, oftentimes more than that. They have acknowledged the fact that their weight is holding them back from a healthy, active life, and many times, people are dealing with serious illnesses due to their obesity

According to TLC, the stories are quite powerful, and each person gets pretty candid about talking exactly what led to their weight gain. The show is about to enter its 10th season. However, it’s important to remember that although every person starts out very determined to change their lives, results are not guaranteed and not everyone has long-lasting success. While some do, in fact, reach their goals, others fall off the wagon. Some of those who have been featured have gained the weight back, and even sadly died before they could regain the happiness that they once had.

Olivia Cruz was featured on season 2 of My 600-lb Life, and when the episode began, she weighed in at 578 pounds. Cruz was confined to her home, depending upon others to do just about everything for her. Although she had tried to lose weight on her own, even undergoing two surgeries, she was unsuccessful and decided to seek the help of Dr. Nowzaradan.

During her time on the show, she had a drastic weight loss surgery done, and it looks like the third time was the charm. Cruz was able to drop an astonishing 400 pounds, and although she was hoping to get some excess skin removed, Dr. Nowzaradan declined to do this. He said that it was not recommended due to the fact that Cruz was recovering from an unrelated procedure. He also felt that she was not motivated enough to lose any additional weight.
