The ‘Great British Baking Show’ winner uses milk powder to make ‘the most delicious hot chocolate’
Speaking to Esquire in February 2021 while promoting Nadiya Bakes, Hussain shared one random grocery store item with a long shelf-life she keeps stocked in her kitchen. Admitting it “sounds ridiculous” to have milk powder in her house at all times, Hussain said she loves it.
“I always have milk powder, which sounds ridiculous, but we see it on the shelves all the time,” she said. “Somebody’s got to be buying it if it’s on the shelves every time you go there.”
Hussain continued, saying she uses milk powder to make hot chocolate.
“Genuinely, it makes the best hot chocolate, because when we’re out of milk, I always resort to my milk powder,” she said. “Add a bit of milk powder to some cocoa, a little bit of honey, and you’ve got the most delicious hot chocolate.”
Follow Hussain’s lead and keep some powdered milk in the pantry for hot chocolate.
The cookbook author has a recipe for hot chocolate in her debut cookbook
Hussain’s first cookbook, Nadiya’s Bake Me A Story, hit shelves in October 2016. A combination of a children’s book and a cookbook, it includes a hot chocolate recipe from the mother of three.

- 2 tbsp malt powder
- 2 tbsp runny honey
