‘NCIS: Hawaii’: CBS Just Crushed 1 Popular Fan Theory
NCIS: Hawaii is rumored to be in the works at CBS. Ever since the first reports surfaced in February, the internet has erupted with fan theories about who will be the leader of the new team.
There have not been any cast announcements for the spinoff yet. But the network just made a big move that has crushed the most popular fan theory of them all.
‘NCIS: Hawaii’ will inherit the executive producers of ‘NCIS: New Orleans’
The news that the NCIS: Hawaii was close to a direct-to-series order came on the heels of CBS’ announcement that they had canceled NCIS: New Orleans after seven seasons.
The details are still being finalized, but The Hollywood Reporter claims that NOLA showrunner Christopher Silber and executive producer Jan Nash will have the same roles on the Hawaii spinoff.
CBS still has still not confirmed that Hawaii is in the works. However, insiders claim the network is looking to hire staff writers, and they are also looking for a pilot director.
Fans are hoping for the return of Anthony DiNozzo and Ziva David
As soon as the news broke that another NCIS spinoff was in development, fans started calling for the return of two beloved characters. They want to see Michael Weatherly’s Tony DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva David again after it was confirmed in season 17 of NCIS that they were still together and raising their daughter Tali in Paris.
This information was revealed when de Pablo shockingly returned for a four-episode arc years after she left the series. In season 13, Ziva was supposedly killed, which was the reason given for Tony’s exit. Weatherly moved on to the legal drama Bull, which is currently in its fifth season.
“But imagine if NCIS Hawaii meant that Tony and Ziva came back!” one fan tweeted. “Wouldn’t it be so cool if they brought Ziva, Tony & Abby back in NCIS Hawaii???” another wrote.
CBS has just crushed the popular ‘NCIS: Hawaii’ fan theory
The return of Tony and Ziva to the NCIS franchise has been the most popular fan theory, by far, since it was leaked that NCIS: Hawaii is coming soon.
Viewers had their fingers crossed that the fan-favorite characters would return. But, the latest news from CBS has crushed those dreams.
The network has just announced that they have renewed Weatherly’s legal drama Bull for season 6. Of course, this means he won’t be available for NCIS: Hawaii.
In addition to Bull, CBS also renewed NCIS for season 19, and confirmed the return of star Mark Harmon for at least one more year. They also renewed Blue Bloods, Magnum P.I., and S.W.A.T.
‘Bull’ has been a successful drama for CBS
Despite fans hoping for the return of Anthony DiNozzo, Weatherly has kept busy with Bull since he left NCIS in 2016. During its first four seasons, the legal drama pulled in an average of 10 million viewers per episode. Ratings have dipped a bit in season 5, but it wasn’t enough for CBS to pull the plug.
The hopes of Weatherly’s return to the NCIS universe always hinged on his availability due to Bull. Now that the drama has been renewed, the odds of the actor being part of NCIS: Hawaii are lower than ever. It doesn’t, however, rule out a cameo at some point.
Will ‘NCIS: Hawaii’ have a female lead?
While no casting details have been released pertaining to NCIS: Hawaii, there have been claims that the spin-off will feature the franchise’s first female lead. According to Express, the character will be named Jane Tennant. But, no actors have been linked to the role.
There’s also a small chance that Ziva could be part of the Hawaii team, or even be the leader. But, without Weatherly’s DiNozzo, it doesn’t seem likely. Still, with NCIS coming back for another season, there’s always the possibility that fans could get their #Tiva cameo in the flagship series.
NCIS airs Tuesday nights on CBS. Bull airs Monday nights on the network.
