‘NCIS’: How Gibbs Gets His Boat Out of the Basement
NCIS has finally solved a mystery that fans have been wondering about for years. Now we finally know how Gibbs gets his boats out of the basement. Here’s what NCIS revealed about Gibbs’ boats and how they’re removed from the basement.
Gibbs leaves ‘NCIS’
Fans knew this day was coming, but few expected Gibbs to leave NCIS so early in the season. Leroy Jethro Gibbs put in 25 years on the job, and he finally decided it was time to make his exit. Gibbs hesitated because the job was his life. After the death of his wife and daughter, he clung to NCIS and made the team his second family.
During NCIS Season 19 Episode 2 (titled “Nearly Departed”) Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) asks Gibbs why he’s still on the job. He doesn’t understand why he won’t let NCIS go. “You always seem to find some way to justify staying in the hunt,” says Fornell. “What the hell are you doing out here still chasing bad guys?” Gibbs says it’s what he does.
However, Gibbs later decides it’s time to move on. He chooses not to return to his job (or his home) during NCIS Season 19 Episode 4 (titled “Great Wide Open”). After saying goodbye to each of his team members, he begins the next chapter of his life in Alaska, the location of his final case.
How Gibbs gets his boats out of the basement
How does Gibbs get his boats out of the basement? It was revealed Gibbs gets his boats out through the wall. He removes bricks and makes a large hole in the wall. FBI Agent Alden Parker (Gary Cole) makes this discovery when looking for Gibbs.
The gaping hole in Gibbs’ basement wall comes up again when Ducky (David McCallum) visits his home. When Ducky is looking for him, he happens to see the wall. He jokes with Gibbs about it, saying, “I like what you’ve done with the place, especially the basement. It’s very airy.”
Torres talks to Gibbs about how he gets his boat out of the basement
While Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) is driving Gibbs to the airport, he says, “Just for the record, I always knew you were going to get that boat out of the basement.” Gibbs seems surprised because he didn’t know this was even a topic people were curious about. Torres says it was a “burning” question many people have had for years. He says he knew about Gibbs and his boat even before he transferred to the NCIS D.C. office.
“How the hell else was I supposed to get that thing out?” asks Gibbs. Torres says he thought the same thing. He told Gibbs about all the strange theories he heard from other people about how he removed the boat.
“The theories I heard were nuts,” says Torres. “I’m talking about movable walls, pulley systems.” He joked that another possible way to get the boat out was to turn it on its side and push it through the coal tunnel underneath Gibbs’ house.
Well, now we know how Gibbs gets the boat out of his house. Sadly, we won’t get to see the NCIS boss build any more boats.
