‘NCIS’: How Old Is Mark Harmon and How Long Will He Play Agent Gibbs?

The NCIS star was born Thomas Mark Harmon on Sept. 2, 1951, in Burbank, California. His mother, Elyse Knox, was an actress as well while his father, Tom Harmon, was a sports broadcaster.
Harmon’s dad was also a successful football player at the University of Michigan and played in the NFL for two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Before he got into acting, Harmon followed in his father’s footsteps and played college ball at UCLA.
In the mid-’70s Harmon had guest appearances in several TV shows. By 1980, he was a series regular on the prime time soap opera Flamingo Road before he was cast as Dr. Robert Caldwell on St. Elsewhere in 1983.
Harmon continued working on many other TV shows following his time on the medical drama but it was his role on JAG in 2003 in which he was first introduced to audiences as Agent Gibbs.
How long he’ll play Agent Gibbs
Speculation and rumors have been swirling for some time about Harmon’s exit from the show, especially after he signed on to produce a new CBS series titled Prey which is based on John Sanford’s novels.
But Harmon has debunked those rumors and told People recently that he is not ready to leave his NCIS gig now. He does, however, know that all things come to an end and has spoken about how he will know it’s time to give up playing Agent Gibbs.
“I’ve always thought if there’s ever a time where the writers are walking into the room and going ‘I don’t know what to do,’ then I think we all have to look at each other and call it a day,” he said, before adding. “But we’re not there yet.”
It’s a very good thing for the network that the writers still have plenty of ideas because NCIS is one of the highest-rated dramas on television with around 12 million viewers tuning in each week.
“We’re doing better ratings this year than last, which for a show of this age is sort of remarkable,” Harmon explained.
Harmon’s net worth
Harmon is the highest-paid actor on the show and according to Celebrity Net Worth makes around $525,000 an episode. However, because he has also served as a producer since 2008 some reports have him making closer to $700,000 per show.
Today, Harmon has an estimated net worth of around $90 million.
