Isyanov delighted fans with his portrayal of the NCIS: Los Angeles character Anatoli Kirkin. His character was first introduced in 2013 during season 4, episode 13 (titled “Wanted”).
One of Isyanov’s early roles was in the 1992 film Back in the U.S.S.R. That same year, he played the character Yakov in the TV movie Stalin. In 1995, he played a Russian hacker in the movie Hackers.
Two years later, in 1997, Isyanov had a recurring role in The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous. He played Boris Levitsky for three episodes. Some of Isyanov’s other roles include appearances in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, JAG, NCIS, Prison Break, and 24.
How Ravil Isyanov’s ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ character was written off the show
The producers at NCIS: Los Angeles were aware of Isyanov’s health status. The actor let the producers know his health was deteriorating, reports People. “He knew that his future looked bleak because of the cancer, and he let producers know, and if they wanted to write him off, they might want to do it, soon,” Levy tells the publication. “I just thought it was really sweet that they were able to give him a proper send-off.”
During Isyanov’s final scene on NCIS: Los Angeles, Callen (Chris O’Donnell) gets a tip from Joelle that helps him find the shipping container where Anna (Bar Paly) is being held hostage. However, the situation gets messy when Anna’s father, Arkady, shows up. He also received a tip.
Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) are about to make their move on the shipping container when they see Arkady with Kirkin. Kensi and Deeks attempt to stop them from storming the container because they’re afraid they will be hurt. However, Kirkin and Arkady continue to move forward with their plan to save Joelle.
Unfortunately, their plan didn’t work the way they thought it would. Showing up turned out to be a very bad idea. As Kirkin steps out, someone shoots him in the chest. He suddenly drops to the ground and begins to take his last breaths. Deeks encourages Kirkin to keep fighting and stay with him, but it’s too late. His wounds are severe.
Kirkin’s death came after the death of two other characters within the NCIS universe. Fans were also shocked after the death of Breena, Jimmy Palmer’s wife, and Emily, Tobias Fornell’s daughter.
