‘NCIS’: Michael Weatherly Reveals What’s Inside Tony DiNozzo’s Desk

Weatherly played NCIS agent Tony DiNozzo from 2003 to 2016. He first appeared in an episode titled “Yankee White.” Weatherly’s character was a senior field agent on the NCIS Major Case Response Team. During an interview with The Futon Critic, Weatherly says DiNozzo is like a teenage boy. He mentions a time he spoke to a journalist who assumed his character and the show were very serious. Weatherly corrected the person, saying the show isn’t your typical crime drama:
What happens is like today I had two things happen and this is what happens when you go into the “real world” of Hollywood when you interact with people that work in New York and LA, that are industry people from Entertainment Weekly to agents to whoever they are. The first person I was talking to said that ‘Well, you’re probably really tired of wearing a uniform and being involved in all this, saying all these military terms all the time and like, saluting.’
And I looked at her and I was like, ‘[Tony DiNozzo] is a federal agent, and like barely. [He’s] like a 13-year-old with a badge and a gun and a Playboy in [his] back pocket. I don’t know what show [you’re talking about]. Do you think I’m someone else?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, I thought you were on that ‘Navy’ show.’

DiNozzo’s work area has a lot of interesting items. Let’s start with the most interesting:
A photo of Nicole Scherzinger and Rachel Crow. Tony is a lighthearted character who always seems to have jokes. As you would probably expect, his work area is full of fun and wacky items.
The first item Weatherly shows Extra is a photo of Nicole Scherzinger next to Rachel Crow from X Factor. He says the moment Crow was eliminated is one he won’t forget. “We all remember what happened when Rachel and Nicole had their moment on the X Factor,” says Weatherly. “I like to have that moment every day when I come to work,” he jokes. Dog figurines. Among the interesting items at DiNozzo’s desk are dog figurines. Weatherly says a fan sent him two dogs made from beads. “I have two German Shepherd dogs, so sometimes when I come to work, I play with my fake dogs,” he says.
A copy of his ‘NCIS’ lines. When Weatherly can’t remember his lines, he’s got a secret space in Tony’s cubicle where he sticks a copy of what he’s supposed to say. During his Extra interview, he points to a lamp at the desk where he taped some of his lines.
Other items. Weatherly also has a framed medal in his desk, a large picture of an eyeball, a copy of Maxim magazine, a baby present, a picture of when he was younger, and paperwork.
