CBS has also revealed more details about what to expect from NCIS: Origins, which is set in 1991 and follows Gibbs as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office.

SNL alum Bobby Moynihan has joined the cast as a lead forensic analyst, Deadline reported. Lori Petty will play an assistant medical examiner. Previously announced cast includes Kyle Schmid as Mike Franks and Diany Rodriguez as Vera Strickland. Tyla Abercrumbie, Mariel Molino, and Caleb Foote will also appear.

During an appearance at a Television Critics Association panel on July 13, Stowell shed more light on what his version of Gibbs will look like and how it will differ from Harmon’s portrayal of the character.

“This is Gibbs dealing with the loss of his wife and child. This is not the Gibbs that the world knows as the team leader who’s always put together,” he said. “This is someone who is broken, who is trying to find his identity. Mark [Harmon] did come up to me and said two words, ‘trust yourself.’”
