Netflix Spreads Holiday Rom-Com Cheer With ‘The Princess Switch 3’ and Jennifer Coolidge Flick
Knowing that the holidays are ripe for snuggling, mingling, and chilling, Netflix plans to deliver a plate of fresh films — including five new rom-coms. Miss seeing Jennifer Coolidge in White Lotus? Well, she’s starring beside an Ugly Betty alum, and Vanessa Hudgens returns for The Princess Switch. Here’s Netflix’s roster of holiday romance films that will keep you glued to your sofa through the holiday season.
‘Single All The Way’
Billed as Netflix’s first gay romance movie, Single All the Way features Michael Urie of Ugly Betty fame, Jennifer Coolidge, Hallmark star Luke Macfarlane and Kathy Najimy. According to the film’s logline, a game of fake it ‘til you make it goes left.
Desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status, Peter (Michael Urie) convinces his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. But when Peter’s mother (Kathy Najimy) sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James (Luke Macfarlane)— the plan goes awry.
Stream it on Dec. 2.
‘A Castle for Christmas’
On Nov. 26, journey with Brooke Shields and Cary Elwes in A Castle for Christmas. Shields’ character travels to Scotland for a possible real estate venture and meets Elwes’ Duke Myles, a resistant castle owner. They start out not getting along, but then…
‘Love Hard’
Nina Dobrev plays a single journalist with terrible luck in the dating department. That is until she comes across Tag — played by Never Have I Ever’s Darren Barnet — on a dating app. She flies across the country to surprise him for the holidays, but learns she’s been catfished. It’s the epitome of a holiday rom-com. Stream it on Nov. 5.
‘The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star’
Vanessa Hudgens reprises her role as identical besties Stacy and Margaret, but now there’s a third lookalike named Fiona. Fans will meet Queen Margaret’s doppelgänger cousin in this caper about a stolen relic. But there’s romance when Fiona taps an old “friend” to help her out. The Princess Switch 3 arrives on Netflix on Nov. 18.
‘1000 Miles from Christmas’
Ring in the grouchy Christmas spirit with 1000 Miles from Christmas, which follows a holiday-hating 30-something named Raul. Per the logline:
Every year he spends Christmas time on a far-away beach… but this year his boss has different plans for him: Raúl must attend a business trip to audit a “turrones de Valverde” factory, the most typical Christmas sweet in a town that lives for and loves Christmas. And if this was not enough for Raúl, he will have to share accommodation with local teacher Paula, whose dream is beating the world record of the largest real live nativity scene ever created. Will this Madrilian Grinch be able to overcome his worst nightmare?
It lands on Netflix on Dec. 24.
