New ‘Clone Wars’ Toy Could Hint at a Special Cameo in the Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘Star Wars’ Live-Action Series
With the success of The Mandalorian and Season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, television future path for Star Wars. This lead to the development of upcoming shows about Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Naturally many rumors came up about the Obi-Wan’s series. And a new toy release might hint at those fan desires.
New ‘Star Wars’ toys show live-action versions of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’
The Direct reported on July 20 that the company Hot Toys had an interesting product reveal. Slideshow Collectibles released photos of new Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi figures.
Hot Toys specializes in realistic figurines, so these two new products look like Hayden Christensen’s Anakin and Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan, almost fresh out of Revenge of the Sith. However, they’re wearing the famous armor their characters use in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
That’s been a long-time question: why did these characters have armor in The Clone Wars but not in Revenge of the Sith? The practical answer is that the series came after the prequels. The third film didn’t outwardly adhere to a lot of what happened in the show because it wasn’t made yet.
But now that these figurines combine the live-action actors and the animated characters’ armor, it strengthens some rumors that have been floating around.
This coincides with a rumor about ‘Clone Wars’ flashbacks in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series
While Hot Toys isn’t directly involved in Star Wars marketed merchandise, it is a licensed seller. This could very easily just be a fun, imaginative way to design these well-known characters. However, when you look at the recent rumors surrounding the Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series, it’s almost a little too perfect.
On July 18, ScreenRant reported a rumor from Kessel Run Transmissions that suggested there will be Clone Wars flashback scenes in the Obi-Wan series. So far, McGregor is the only actor returning from the prequels to reprise his role.
But even before July 18, there were rumblings that Disney and Lucasfilm wanted to get Christensen involved, as well, to reprise his role of Anakin. The extent of this cameo (or more) obviously isn’t known because it’s just a rumor.
But with the launch of these new toys, it strengthens the cameo theories.
Before The Clone Wars flashbacks were brought up, fans thought that maybe Christensen’s Anakin could come back in visions or dreams that Obi-Wan has. Flashbacks would be the perfect way to see them together again and have it progress Obi-Wan’s story.
The Obi-Wan series will dive into his trauma, post-‘Revenge of the Sith’
How would flashbacks to Obi-Wan’s war times be the perfect way to develop his story, you may ask? Good question.
McGregor told Men’s Journal in October that Obi-Wan is “dealing with the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode III.” The series sounds like it’ll show Kenobi process his trauma regarding the end of the war and the start of the Galactic Empire. And he’s most likely still suffering from Anakin’s turn to the Dark Side.
In probably one of the most emotional moments of the final prequel, Obi-Wan screams in despair at the loss of his “brother.” And The Clone Wars highlighted their relationship in a way that the movies never could. Using flashbacks would, again, be the perfect way to dive into their live-action counterparts having that close bond and also show how Obi-Wan is still deeply affected by the past.
There are endless possibilities, and again, these are only rumors. But it would delight fans to see events or storylines from the animated series brought to life in some way.
