New Edition: Where is Ralph Tresvant Now?
Ralph Tresvant is best known as the New Edition frontman with the killer falsetto. But over the years, he has also found success as a solo recording artist. The vocalist recently revealed what music fans could expect from him next.
Ralph Tresvant has released numerous solo hits
Tresvant began his music career as a member of the Boston-based boy band, New Edition. He recorded a slew of crowd-pleasers with the band, including “Candy Girl,” Count Me Out,” and “Can You Stand the Rain?”
In between recording and performing with New Edition, Tresvant dropped three solo projects. His 1990 self-titled debut album, which included the slow jam, “Sensitivity,” soared to platinum status. The artist leveraged his popularity and completed two additional solo albums, It’s Goin’ Down in 1994 and Rizz-Wa-Faire in 2006. Both releases met moderate success and solidified Tresvant’s status as a solo artist.
Ralph Tresvant opened up about his upcoming album
“I promise you, I’m gonna keep delivering. I’m gonna keep doing what I do,” Tresvant told Urban Bridgez E-Zine in a recent interview. Tresvant teased that he is currently working on his fourth studio album, and he has enlisted a few legendary producers to collaborate on the project.
According to Tresvant, the hit-maker duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are in the mix. “I’ve already been in the studio with those guys. I can’t go in the studio without those guys,” admitted Tresvant.
Tresvant revealed that he is also in talks to bring Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds on board as a key producer. Edmonds has worked with Tresvant and his bandmates on previous group and solo projects.
The new album will feature some familiar voices
Fans can look forward to hearing some familiar harmonies on Tresvant’s new album. In advance of the release, the singer has already dropped the first single, titled “All Mine.” Regarding the positive reception of the single, Tresvant told Urban Bridgez, “It’s touching in my heart, man. It’s making me feel real good.”
“All Mine” features New Edition bandmate, Johnny Gill. And it is not the only song with some New Edition flavor that will make it onto Tresvant’s upcoming album. The artist dished that on-again-off-again bandmate Bobby Brown contributed vocals to a song called, “Someday.”
“He might be pleasantly surprised when he hears it,” mused Tresvant, who recorded Brown’s vocals about four years before the song was produced.
Tresvant shared that “Someday” means a lot to him, saying, “The song, ‘Someday,’ is a song that’s basically talking about holding on. You know? Staying true to what you are. It’s reminiscent of [Marvin Gay’s] ‘Mercy, Mercy Me’ [and] ‘Make Me Wanna Holler.’ It’s kinda got that energy to it.”
There is currently no title or release date for Tresvant’s upcoming album, but fans can check out the singer’s previous records streaming on Spotify.
