New ‘Furiosa’ Plot Reveals How It Fits Into ‘Mad Max’ Universe
After a long time coming, the Furiosa synopsis is finally here. It gives a much better glimpse into how the movie will fit into the Mad Max universe, although it certainly does also leave audiences with some questions. The Furiosa plot is taking a different direction from its predecessor, but it’s still sure to rope audiences into theaters.
‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ reintroduced the world to the franchise
The post-apocalyptic action flick Mad Max: Fury Road raced into theaters back in 2015. It marked the fourth installment in the franchise, but also served as a reboot of the continuity. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron led the cast as Max and Furiosa, respectively. The two actors didn’t get along on the set, but they ultimately captured both critics and moviegoing audiences.
Mad Max: Fury Road earned a staggering 10 Oscar nominations and won six of them, making it the most awarded movie of the night. As a result, the film simply begged for another big return to this universe. The Furiosa plot release is sure to ignite some excitement among fans who waited for the big return.
‘Furiosa’ plot reveals how it fits into the ‘Max Max’ universe
The upcoming Furiosa serves as both a prequel and a spinoff to Mad Max: Fury Road. Distributor Warner Bros. finally came around with the official plot for Furiosa that gives audiences a bit of a closer look into what they can expect. See below to read the full Furiosa synopsis:
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
The Furiosa plot teases that the title character is actually originally from the Green Place of Many Mothers. It reveals that she’s about to find herself in the middle of an intense war between Immortan Joe and the Warlord Dementus. As previously promised, Furiosa won’t be another cat-and-mouse movie, but it will still hold onto its adventure roots as she seeks to return back home. The synopsis leaves a lot of questions of where her journey could go leading up to Mad Max: Fury Road.
A delayed release date
Mad Max: Fury Road writer/director George Miller will return for the prequel spinoff. However, the Furiosa plot gives a better idea of the direction he’s moving in. He brought The Northman star Anya Taylor-Joy on board to play the lead role. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke are also signed on, although their characters aren’t announced yet. Nathan Jones will play Rictus Erectus, while Angus Sampson will play The Organic Mechanic.
Furiosa will also bring back other Mad Max: Fury Road names. This includes screenwriter Nico Lathouris, film editor Margaret Sixel, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and composer Junkie XL. The original release date was June 23, 2023, although delays pushed it back. It’s currently set for May 24, 2024, so audiences will still have quite some time to wait to see how it all comes together.
