‘New Girl’: Do You Remember Everyone Jessica Day Dated?
hen New Girl fans met up with Jessica Day for the first time, she was fresh out of a long-term relationship. While Jess was positioned as someone who enjoyed the predictability of long-term, monogamous relationships, it took her a while to find one that fit her. When the series drew to a close after its seventh season, she found her perfect match in Nick Miller, but do you remember everyone she dated before they finally got it right?
Jess’ had two fairly serious relationships with fellow teachers
After a couple of failed dates, Jess found herself in a relationship once again. Instead of going for someone rootless like her ex, Spencer, Jess ended up with Paul Genzlinger. Paul was a fellow teacher at Jess’ school.
While he was just quirky enough to make sense for Jess, his feelings were a bit more complex than hers. They broke up after dating for less than a month when Paul told Jess he loved her. She didn’t feel the same.
Later, Jess hooked up with another teacher. As a vice-principal, she attempted to keep her attraction to Ryan, a new teacher, under control. That didn’t last long, though, and the pair briefly dated. Their relationship ended when Ryan went back to the United Kingdom to teach.
Jess dated two older men in ’New Girl’
Jess didn’t just date men her age. During the series, she dated two older men. First, she hooked up with the father of one of her students. Russell Schiller was wealthy and kind. In fact, he seemed like the perfect fit for Jess at first, but Cece pointed out that Jess did not do well in relationships where the man was more mature than she was.
In the end, Jess ended the relationship because she didn’t think she and Russell had any passion. Russell appeared, again in season 2, and then finally in season 7. None of his additional appearances resulted in any further romantic interest on Jess’s part. Jess also briefly romanced Gavin Schmidt, Schmidt’s long-estranged father.
Jess had a complicated relationship with Dr. Sam
Before settling down with Nick, Jess dated a doctor named Sam Sweeney. The two met when he mistook Jess for a woman named Katie that he met on a dating app. Their no strings attached arrangement eventually blossomed into a real relationship, but it wasn’t meant to last.
Throughout the show, the duo broke up and got back together more than once. Jess, however, was the one who consistently ruined their relationship. In the end, it is possible that Sam just had it too together for Jess. He was independent and did not need to be mothered, unlike Nick.
Jess briefly dated Cece’s ex
While most people agree that dating your best friend’s ex is in poor taste, Jess did it anyway. She briefly hooked up with Robby McFerrin, who Cece dated after ending her relationship with Schmidt. The pair seem to be well-suited to one another, but Jess, once again, didn’t seem to feel a spark.
Eventually, their relationship got off the ground, and Jess began developing feelings. Ultimately, they went their separate ways because they found out they were cousins.
