Who Is New York’s Next Governor Kathy Hochul’s Husband William Hochul?
Following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo‘s resignation from office amid sexual harassment allegations and a scathing report from the state’s attorney general documenting multiple accusations made by several women, Kathy Hochul will become the next governor.
When Cuomo leaves office on Aug. 24, Kathy Hochul will be sworn as the first female to serve as New York’s governor, making her husband the state’s very first “first gentleman.” So now, many people want to know all about the Lt. Governor and the man she’s married to. Here’s more on Kathy and Bill Hochul.
When Kathy Hochul became Lieutenant Governor
Kathy was a county clerk in Buffalo before running for Congress in a 2011 special election. In 2014, Cuomo tapped her to be his running mate. She is viewed as a moderate Democrat which helped the pair come out victorious in one of the state’s most solidly Republican districts.
“To my core, I’ve always been a public servant. I believe in serving the people. And you have given me the chance to continue,” she previously said.
Fast forward to taking over now after Cuomo exits office, Kathy declared that she is ready. “The number one role of lieutenant governor is be prepared to step in as governor, should the need arise,” she stated (per Spectrum News).
What Bill Hochul does for a living
William J. Hochul Jr. was born in Buffalo and graduated from Cheektowaga Central High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame and his Juris Doctor from the State University of New York at Buffalo. According to his LinkedIn, Bill joined the U.S. Department of Justice in March 1987. He started as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. before moving back to his hometown in 1991.
Some people may recall hearing his name for the first time in the wake of the 9/11 attacks when he served as the lead prosecutor in the “Lackawanna Six” case. Bill was confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2010 as the United States Attorney for the Western District of New York and held that position until 2016.
Today, Bill is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Delaware North which is a hospitality and gaming company. “In his role, [William] Hochul manages the legal function for the company and provides advice and counsel to senior management in all legal matters involving Delaware North or its operating,” the company’s website notes.
How long she and William Hochul have been married and how many children they have together
The couple moving into the governor’s mansion has been married since 1984 and they have two adult children together named Caitlin and William.
Not a ton is known about their son and daughter but their mother has posted photos of them on Instagram in the past. The public may learn a lot more about them in the coming weeks since when their mom becomes the next governor of New York.
