Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards Highlight Disney Projects ‘Encanto,’ ‘Raven’s Home,’ and ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’
It’s a night filled with slime and celebrities. The 2022 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards winners even included Disney stars and movies, including Encanto and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actor Bassett.

The Kids Choice Awards are back with even more stars and opportunities to join the fun. That’s thanks to several Nickelodeon-owned theme parks hosted viewing parties throughout the United States.
Complete with orange carpets and green slime, some fans flocked to the American Dream mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, to get the Kids Choice Awards experience. That included trivia-themed to Spongebob Squarepants and Dora the Explorer, as well as popcorn and fruit snacks.
The 2022 ceremony was hosted by Miranda Cosgrove and Gronk. As a former cast member of Nick’s Drake and Josh and iCarly, this was far from Cosgrove’s first time at the ceremony and the host added extra love for the television network with her green dress.
The night also included celebrity appearances from Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, Sofia Carson, Terry Crews, Isla Fisher, Jordan Fisher, Heidi Klum, Sabrina Carpenter, Ralph Macchio, Charlie Puth, Sofía Vergara, and more. Even if the fan-voted awards were unique to Nickelodeon, this ceremony mentioned kids’ choices from other companies, including the Walt Disney Company.
Joshua Bassett of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ won the Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Male TV Star
As a singer, songwriter, and actor, Bassett was the 2022 Kids Choice Award winner for Favorite Male TV Star. That was for the Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, where Bassett acted as one of the main characters.
“Nothing is more powerful than speaking your truth,” Bassett said during his acceptance speech. ”The second thing is to never settle just because things are the way they are doesn’t mean they should be, and we don’t have to settle for love that is second best and not what we deserve… Lead with your heart, be honest at all costs, and trust in the magic that you are.”
Can Disney shows earn Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards?
Bassett wasn’t the only Disney star representing High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Fisher was one of the season 2 cast members. Disney was well represented at the 2022 Kids Choice Awards. The studio snagged nominations for shows like Raven’s Home.
Disney’s Encanto, released in 2021, earned the Kids Choice Award for Favorite Animated Movie. The film appeared in the same category as Disney and Pixar’s Luca. This wouldn’t be the first time Disney-owned productions earned recognition from this award ceremony, even if it is featured under a different children’s network.
So yes, Disney films, shows, and cast members can, and do, earn Kids Choice Awards. Part of the ceremony’s appeal is that kids can support some of their favorite entertainment outlets. Viewers can even vote in real-time during the Kids Choice Awards, voting for which dance moves the hosts should showcase.
Disney did have their own award show known as the Radio Disney Music Awards (later renamed the ARDYs). The company since shut down its radio station, and Radio Disney’s corresponding added content.
