Nicki Minaj Gives Birth to First Child with Husband Kenneth Petty
No, she’s not lucky, she’s blessed—yes! Nicki Minaj is officially a mother! The rapper gave birth to her first child with husband Kenneth Petty on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in LA. The sex and name of the baby have not yet been revealed.
Minaj announced her pregnancy back in July in a series of four Instagram posts that were endlessly glamorous. The first post showcased Minaj cradling her baby bump with the simple caption, “#Preggers.” Another post in this series expressed her excitement over her baby news.
“Love. Marriage. Baby carriage,” the star wrote. “Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes.” The final photo the 37-year-old shared showcased Minaj looking angelic among a grassy area with a psychedelic background. As she captioned it, “And finally, by #DavidLaChapelle.”

Minaj and Petty have not revealed the sex or name of their baby
According to People, neither Minaj nor Petty (who got married in Oct. 2019) has spoken publicly about the exciting news, but fans are over the moon for rap icon.
While the sex of the baby is not yet known, fans of the “Moment 4 Life” rapper thought she might have let the news slip not long after her pregnancy announcement. In a video on the star’s Instagram Story in July, Minaj shared a video of an adorable bundle of baby clothes sent to her by designer Ricardo Tisci, Chief Creative Officer of Burberry.

Nicki Minaj fans think the rapper revealed the sex of her baby on her Instagram Story
As Minaj wrote in the video’s caption,” “@riccardotisci17 love you so much. Thank you.” Eagle-eyed fans noticed that one of the onesies in the collection appeared to be the boy/unisex version of the garment. The onesie for girls sports a slightly ruffled shoulder. Some fans took this to mean the baby was a boy.
Minaj hasn’t always been tightlipped about motherhood. In an interview with Complex in 2014, the musician said she wanted to have children. As she said,
If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother. I have definitely put off the wife thing because I don’t want people in my business. I’d rather not do anything that’s going to be on paper but I definitely will be married before I have my baby. I want to make sure I do it in that order. I’ve always felt like that since I was young; my mother always put that in my head. By the fifth album, I will have walked down the aisle and I will at least be on baby number one, possibly baby number two. [Laughs.] And have $500 million.
The new mother made good on her personal family goals, having married Petty in October 2019 and announcing her pregnancy in July 2020.
