Nicole Kidman’s career

Although of Australian descent, Nicole Mary Kidman was actually born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her parents Janelle Anne, a nursing instructor, and Antony David Kidman, a biochemist and clinical psychologist, were there on an educational visa when Nicole came along on June 20, 1967. When she was three years old, her parents moved back to their native Sydney, Australia, where she was raised. Her first love was ballet, but she took up mime and drama appearing as a bleating sheep in her first stage play at her elementary school.

Kidman dropped out of high school and began acting at 16. She landed a role in the Australian holiday favorite Bush Christmas in 1983. She won her first Australian Film Institute award in 1987 for her portrayal of schoolgirl-turned-protester in the miniseries Vietnam.

In 1989, Kidman made her US debut opposite actor Sam Neill in the thriller Dead Calm. Her acting credits include Days of Thunder, Far and Away, Batman Forever, Practical Magic, Eyes Wide Shut, Moulin Rouge, Cold Mountain, The Stepford Wives, Bewitched, Stoker, Queen of the Desert, and Aquaman, among many, many others. She also starred in the popular television series Big Little Lies and has several other projects currently in the works.

Keith Urban — an Australian country singer

Keith Urban was born Keith Lionel Urbahn on October 26, 1967, in Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand. The New Zealand-Australian singer, songwriter, and record producer released a self-titled debut album in Australia in 1991. He made his solo American country music debut in 1999 with an album that certified platinum. Urban earned his first Grammy Award for a song titled “You’ll Think of Me” in 2002 from the album, Golden Road.

Urban has released 10 studio albums, including one released only in Australia and charted 37 singles on the Hot Country Songs Chart. Eighteen of those singles went to number one. He has earned three Grammy Awards, serves as a coach on the Australian version of The Voice and is a judge on American Idol. To top it all off, he has introduced his own signature line of guitars and accessories.

How Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban make it work

Most couples spend time getting to know each other before tying the knot, but not these two. They married soon after they met. Kidman has been rumored to know what she wants and then to go out and get it. When she was asked about the rapidity of the move, she said she prefers to get married first and then get to know each other second.

That’s taking a big risk especially since she found out after the wedding that Urban had a problem with alcoholism. Kidman wound up staging an intervention and her husband got help.

One method the couple uses to keep the fires alive is they refuse to use technology to stay in touch when they are apart. Even when they are worlds away for work purposes, they believe that hearing each other’s voice helps them stay close. They also write notes to one another. Kidman says her husband likes to write love letters to her each day that they are away from one another.
