‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Episode 4 Ending Explained: More Trouble for Masha
Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 4, “Brave New World,” picks up after the Hulu series dropped a bombshell during episode 3: that Masha (Nicole Kidman) has been drugging the guests at Tranquillum House. Those who expected chaos to erupt following the revelation that they were unknowingly consuming psilocybin may be disappointed. Although the visitors are outraged at first, most of them get over the deception fairly quickly. In fact, the fourth installment of Hulu’s drama remains relatively peaceful — at least until the very end.
‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Episode 4 sees some of the characters healing
Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 4 sees the guests at Tranquillum House healing, even as they question Masha’s methods. Napoleon (Michael Shannon) seems the most concerned about the microdosing — and the violent environment Masha is creating — but even he’s been affected positively. Not only is he finally able to grieve his son, but he and Heather (Asher Keddie) rekindle their relationship.
Tony (Bobby Cannavale) and Frances (Melissa McCarthy) haven’t quite come to terms with their problems, but the two own up to them this week. The guests came to Tranquillum House with secrets, but they’re opening up about what’s truly bothering them. Whether that’s an effect of the drugs or the people they’re around isn’t clear, but they appear to be making progress.
What happened at the end of ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ Episode 4?
The tail end of Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 4 sees the guests at Tranquillum House enjoying their smoothies around a fire. They seem perfectly at peace, but things aren’t so calm behind the scenes.
As the group enjoys their evening, Masha tells Yao (Manny Jacinto) it’s time to move on to the next step of the protocol. This means upping the dosage the guests are receiving — again, without telling them about the change. Even Yao, who’s been steadfastly faithful to Masha thus far, questions whether this is the right move. Things really heat up when Delilah (Tiffany Boone) hears about the decision, especially since she was left in the dark about it.
Masha and Delilah get into an argument during which Masha reveals Delilah hasn’t been drinking her own smoothies. According to Masha, the ingredients help treat her “bipolarity” and are a condition of her employment. Delilah doesn’t dwell on those words though, still angry that Masha excluded her from decision-making. She even tells her boss it “will not end well” if this happens again.
Seemingly never shaken, Masha shrugs off Delilah’s threat and tells her to enjoy herself. The tensions between them follow her back to her quarters, however, where Masha finds shattered glass and a message on her wall: “It’s good to die.”
While the person sending anonymous threats could have been anyone, Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 4 makes it clear they’re actually at Tranquillum House — and in range to act on their ominous words.
Who’s threatening Nicole Kidman’s Masha?
The mystery hovering over Nine Perfect Strangers is who’s threatening Masha, and episode 4 could provide clues. Currently, Delilah feels like the most obvious answer. Although violence seems out of character for her, she’s clearly angry with her boss. Not only is there jealously over Yao, but Delilah feels slighted by Masha’s exclusion. She also isn’t fully on board with the new protocols.
Of course, the most obvious person isn’t typically the culprit. The person threatening Masha could just as easily be one of the guests themselves, all of whom came to Tranquillum House with baggage and secrets. Could one of them be hiding a huge grudge against Kidman’s character? It’s possible.
It seems unlikely Yao would be behind the messages, but Masha throws the idea out there. She seems to be joking, but there could be more going on at Tranquillum House than viewers know about. Does Yao have a reason to go after her?
The next few episodes will provide more clues about who’s threatening Masha and why. However, there’s plenty to speculate about in the first four episodes.
Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 4 is now streaming on Hulu.
