Hulu is credited for quite a number of what could best be described as dystopian drama shows. While it could be argued that the studio’s library of originals is not as extensive as that of Netflix, these original series have attracted quite an audience seeing as they employ decent cinematography and captivating storylines.

Hulu recently revealed that Nine Perfect Strangers starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, had the highest viewership of any of its original series. A neat observation is that before the series hit Hulu, The Handmaid’s Tale season four held the record as having the highest viewership for both its pilot episode and consequent episodes.

How ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ surpassed ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ in most-watched

Making TV shows seems to agree with David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman, and as such, the popularity of Nine Perfect Strangers goes beyond the hype that new series typically receive. The miniseries based on Liane Moriarty’s novel with the same title features a star-studded cast that gives a superior performance of a decent script.

While it feels like a follow-up to The White Lotus, it beats The Handmaid’s Tale, a dark drama that focuses on an imaginary totalitarian society following the second American Civil War.

It has been argued that this popularity among subscribers in the United States is thanks to the fan craze for Moriarty’s work. What’s more, Kidman’s presence within the cast can be viewed as an additional component added to the perfect cocktail that seduces audiences.

Besides, the storyline is quite intriguing as it floats between a psychotic thriller and a drama, and as such, it is no surprise that the series established itself as a flagship project from Hulu.

Other than just beating The Handmaid’s Tale, which was the most recent holder of the title of most-viewed series, the series successfully surpassed the numbers registered by the two earlier holders of the title Little Fires Everywhere and The Great.

The success of Hulu Originals

Cord Cutter News reports that in the recent past, Hulu has become home to some of the most-watched content, making it the content creator to beat. For starters, the production house has an ongoing show dubbed This Way Up, whose season two is still pending.

The quirky Irish drama that takes a raw and light approach to mental health receives the top spot based on audience responses, critics, and Hulu viewership statistics. A second production from Hulu that has received both solid ratings and viewer popularity is the female-driven project that was the three complete seasons of Harlots.

While Hulu has had other successful originals, including Love, Victor, PEN15, the adult animated series Solar Opposites, The Great, and Future Man these fail to meet the numbers registered for Nine Perfect Strangers and The Handmaid’s Tale.
