Trying to fill the void left by Nipsey Hussle’s tragic death hasn’t been easy, and the late rapper’s team has been busy working to uphold his legacy.

Determined to continue the marathon, his family (including Lauren London), friends, and camp have collectively pursued his efforts through music, Marathon fashion, community projects, and art. Adding to that collection of Nipsey Hussle gems is a new visual album that will take fans on a different sort of musical journey.

Nipsey Hussle virtual experience arrives on YouTube

On the anniversary of Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon mixtape debut in December, his estate announced plans to release a visual album in his honor. A message was posted on Instagram alerting fans about what to expect:

Today marks 10 years since the release of #TheMarathon. A project our team holds near and dear to our hearts for many reasons. It represents the story of Nipsey’s resilience and unwavering faith in his mission, and the authenticity and honesty in his message. It also was the first seed planted in the Marathon brand that gave fruit to many other branches that Nipsey architected, as only he could do.

In commemoration of this anniversary we’re proud to announce our collaborative effort with @okidoki to bring to life an interactive live visual album experience coming in 2021. The experience will give viewers and intimate look at the era that helped shape this masterpiece. The people, the places, the stories, and more.

Created in partnership with digital media company Oki Doki, the virtual event will stream on YouTube on Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST. Fans should visit Nipsey Hussle’s channel on the platform to tune in for the live presentation.

A Nipsey Hussle documentary is on the way too

In addition to a themed book club and planned follow-up album to Victory Lap, there’s a documentary on the way about the late emcee. According to Deadline, Netflix paid eight figures to seal the deal and Ava DuVernay has been tapped to direct.

The outlet reported Nipsey’s family reached out to her directly as admirers of her work on When They See Us and 13th. The film will cover his life, family, career, and all the work he did in the community in education, tech, and investing.

This follows a BBC documentary released in 2020 that examined the rapper’s murder. Director Ben Zand spoke to law enforcement officials, gang members, and people who knew Nipsey for The Mysterious Murder of Nipsey Hussle. The film aired on BBC Three.

Other Nipsey Hussle works in the pipeline

Before he died, Nipsey was working on multiple endeavors, including his own documentary on Dr. Sebi and a few real estate ventures. The Marathon clothing store was slated to be torn down and replaced with a structure that houses commercial and residential spaces. Plans are still in effect to move forward with “Nipsey Tower.”

And back in December 2020, producer Mr. Lee revealed he’s working on a new Nipsey Hussle album that includes unreleased verses from the rapper. He told the Ritz Herald artists such as Dave East and Trae The Truth will be featured on it. Additionally, he plans to drop “Blue Laces 3,” a single that’s part of a series that Nipsey recorded during his mixtape days.
