‘Nobody Wants This’: Where Adam Brody and Kristen Bell See Noah and Joanne’s Relationship Going in a Potential Season 2
Adam Brody and Kristen Bell have different predictions on what could happen if Nobody Wants This returns for season 2. One sees a future where agnostic Joanne (Bell) and rabbi Noah (Brody) give their relationship another shot on the Netflix original series. Spoiler: It’s The O.C. alum. Meanwhile, the other doesn’t have an “answer.”
[Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers from Nobody Wants This Season 1.]
How ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 1 ended
Nobody Wants This Season 1 ended on a high note for Joanne and Noah after a big night at Miriam’s (Shiloh Bearman) bat mitzvah. But it wasn’t without some tears, discoveries, and dance moves.
Noah learned his chances at becoming head rabbi were so good that the promotion was practically a done deal. Upon hearing the news, he told Joanne he loved her. After saying she loved him too, and initially agreeing to convert to Judaism, she realized she couldn’t make Noah “choose.”
“Because I love you, I can’t convert,” she told Noah. “If I’m being honest, I was only doing it for you. And there’s so many beautiful things about Judaism, and I’m just not there yet, and I … I don’t know if I ever will be,” she said.
“I see what’s at stake now,” Joanne explained. “You need me to be something that I can’t promise that I can be. And if I falter even a little bit, your whole life blows up. That’s not fair to you. You can’t have both. And I would never make you choose.”
Just as Joanne got to her car—after telling Noah not to come after her—there he was, waiting in true rom-com fashion. “Well, you were right, I can’t have both,” he said as they kissed.
Adam Brody sees a ‘meet in the middle’ situation happening for Joanne and Noah
Asked what he thinks is next for the Nobody Wants This couple, Brody told Today he sees compromise for Noah and Joanne. “[They] meet in the middle,” he said, noting season 1 wrapped on “such an open-ended ending.”
At the time of writing, Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether or not Nobody Wants This Season 2 will happen. However, the show’s success—it’s currently the streamer’s No. 1 TV show—bodes well.
So, despite the fact that nothing may have changed—with Noah still in line for the head rabbi position and Joanne’s podcast career blossoming—the pair are, Brody predicted, going to give it another shot.
“I think that we get the impression that they’re going to try to make it work and be together,” he said. “And so what that looks like? I don’t think they know.” Here’s hoping it includes Noah doing a guest spot on the podcast and more hilarious moments from his brother, Sasha (Timothy Simons).
Kristen Bell’s ‘happy’ she’s not sure what will happen in a possible ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2
Meanwhile Bell is embracing not having a road map for Noah and Joanne’s love story. “The reason you watch a show is to decide will they or won’t they,” she said. “I’m happy with the beautiful way this particular story ended.”
At the same time, she sees room to explore if the show gets renewed. “I feel like there is so much real estate to play [with] when you are writing about the challenges of navigating different outlooks on life and meddling family members and settling down and compromising and lust and love and all those things. And if I had an answer for you, we would not be able to do a second season.”
The ‘Nobody Wants This’ creator sees Noah and Joanne’s ‘take it slow’ storyline continuing
As for the show’s creator, Erin Foster, she doesn’t want things to change too much for Joanne and Noah as far as the pace of their relationship goes.
“There’s so much more story to tell,” she said, noting the characters “take their time” with their romance in season 1. “You just get to ‘I love you’ right at the end of the season? That’s a slow trajectory,” she said. “So if there was a Season 2, I would want to pick up where we leave off and kind of continue to take it slow.”
Nobody Wants This Season 1 is streaming on Netflix.
