The Notorious B.I.G.’s Mom Wanted to ‘Slap the Daylights’ Out of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
In 1993, Christopher Wallace — better known as the Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie — signed to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ nascent Bad Boy label. They worked together until Biggie’s death in 1997. In the years her son worked with Diddy, Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallace, said she came to like the record executive. After hearing the accusations leveled against Diddy by his former partner, Cassie Ventura, however, all she felt for him was disgust. Wallace said she wished she could have hit him.
The Notorious B.I.G.’s mother said she was horrified by the accusations against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
In 2023, Diddy’s former girlfriend, Ventura, filed a lawsuit against him accusing him of sexual assault and physical abuse. In the months since then, more people have come forward with stories of their own. This month, officials arrested Diddy on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Wallace said the accusations horrified her.
“I’m sick to my stomach,” Wallace told Rolling Stone, adding, “I’m praying for Cassie. I’m praying for his mother. I don’t want to believe the things that I’ve heard, but I’ve seen [the hotel video]. I pray that he apologizes to her.”
She said she felt embarrassed to have ever liked him. She hadn’t initially wanted to believe the accusations, but her uncertainty has since sharpened into fury.
“I hope that I see Sean one day and the only thing I want to do is slap the daylights out of him. And you can quote me on that,” she said. “Because I liked him. I didn’t want to believe all the awful things, but I’m so ashamed and embarrassed.”
She shared what she hopes he will do moving forward
Wallace believes that Diddy needs to apologize to Ventura. She also thinks he owes someone else in his life an apology.
“He needs to apologize to his mother,” she said. “I hope to God he sits her down and spills his guts and apologizes to her.”
The Notorious B.I.G. reportedly wanted to move away from Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
While Wallace once had a friendly relationship with Diddy, her son was reportedly preparing to move on from the record executive. Several people close to him said that shortly before his death, Biggie was reportedly making plans to leave Bad Boy.
“[Biggie] was absolutely about to leave Puff,” photographer Monique Bunn told Rolling Stone. “I know for a fact [because] he told me that.”
Some believed Biggie’s deal with Bad Boy was unfair, and his lawyers were trying to regain control of his publishing rights. Diddy was not making this easy.
“I will never give it up until I’m dead and my bones are crushed into powder,” Diddy reportedly told his lawyers.
Biggie was not the only artist trying to extricate himself from Diddy’s business dealings. Many of Bad Boys artists believed Diddy was the only one benefitting from their record deals.
“Everybody wanted to leave Puffy,” an anonymous source said. “Everybody leaves him.”
