Olivia Munn Revealed Why She Wanted to Keep Pregnancy With John Mulaney a Secret
Pregnant actor Olivia Munn disclosed her frustrations and fears over news of her upcoming arrival with comedian John Mulaney leaking before she was ready to talk about it. Fans may remember Mulaney announced their shared news in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers that followed months of online speculation.
But what specifically upset Munn about early scrutiny over whether she was becoming a celebrity mom? And what was she afraid could happen?
Olivia Munn was scared of losing her baby
Munn and Mulaney surprised fans with their relationship in May, shortly after news broke of the comedian’s divorce. Soon after, gossip site DeuxMoi shared a video which suggested the new couple was hiding a pregnancy.
When someone photographed Munn in what looked like maternity attire, fans took to social media to speculate. Soon after those pictures went public, so did Mulaney. He visited Meyers to confirm the rumors of a baby were true.
While chatting with Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Munn said, “I think what was harder was when you have people talking about it and leaking it out there before I’m ready to talk about it.” To elaborate, she explained she was worried something could happen to the pregnancy. She said, “Since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve had four different girlfriends lose their pregnancies all after the safe zone.”
And her fears didn’t end there. She added she has other risk factors, like being 41 and having an autoimmune disorder – fibromyalgia. “There are a lot of elements that come into play when you’re pregnant,” she continued. “There’s a lot of fear. You want to do everything you can to protect your baby.”
She mentioned how she’s under doctor’s orders to avoid stress due to fibromyalgia, and especially during pregnancy. But what has she said about her much-talked-about relationship?
Olivia Munn’s relationship with John Mulaney
One interesting thing about Munn’s pregnancy reveal was that it came from Mulaney. He also gushed about how incredible new love in early addiction recovery was for him. He hasn’t said much publicly about his ongoing divorce. But he did make a point to tell Meyers he moved out of the house he shared with wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler, in October 2020.
That was before an intervention led to a stay in rehab which ended in February 2021. He claimed to have started dating Munn soon after, sometime in the spring. Notably, Tendler said in May 2021 she was “heartbroken” over Mulaney’s decision to pursue divorce. Otherwise, she hasn’t spoken about it publicly, either.
For Munn’s part, she has talked about pregnancy in interviews but hasn’t said much about Mulaney – except that he’s tall so their baby might grow up to be tall. Rumors of a breakup have targeted the couple, but Munn refuted the gossip.
While she may be keeping parts of her relationship with Mulaney private, she has been open about negative feelings about her changing body.
Olivia Munn is insecure about her pregnant body
While speaking of her pregnancy previously, she shared concerns about what to wear and what to buy – but also how pregnancy has negatively impacted her body image.
She recently noted how she feels imperfect because she doesn’t have a pregnant body like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Notably, Huntington-Whiteley spoke about her own journey to a positive pregnant body image, and told Ashley Graham she “felt like s***” about the weight she gained during her first pregnancy, too.
So, it seems like Munn is having relatable feelings. And though she would have preferred to have kept the news from the public longer, she seems comfortable opening up more now that she’s made it this far into the game. People reported the baby is due this year.
