Gabrielle “Gabby” Thomas is one of the best sprinters in her sport. The Harvard University graduate, who also played soccer and softball, really fell in love with track watching her childhood idol, former Olympian Allyson Felix, run in the 200m race.

That is the same race Thomas competes in today and after taking home a couple of medals in Tokyo, she added another gold to her collection in the Paris Olympics. In the stands cheering her on while she did was her boyfriend, Spencer McManes.

Here’s more about him and their relationship.

How long Thomas and McManes have been together

While Thomas and McManes haven’t publicly talked about how they met or when exactly they started dating, an anniversary post on social media indicates that they started seeing each other in October 2022.

In March 2023, the two became Instagram official when McManes confirmed their relationship by sharing a picture of them together and captioning it: “Vacation every day.”

McManes has shared a lot of snaps of his girlfriend on social media but just before the Olympics, he made his accounts private.

McManes is an athlete as well

Like Thomas, McManes is an athlete as well.

He was born on June 5, 1994, in Roswell, Georgia, to parents Skip and Lori. He has three siblings: Carter, Mackie, and Livvie.

McManes attended Blessed Trinity Catholic High School before enrolling at Yale University where he played football. The student athlete was captain of the Yale Bulldogs for two years. McManes lives in Austin and has played rugby as well for the Austin Huns Rugby Club. He won three straight seasons of the TOLA (Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana) 7s rugby championships.

McManes graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and government, and today works at DataGrail as a Senior Customer Success Manager. He also recently launched a non-alcoholic seltzer brand called Kaviva.

Thomas has support from another member of McManes’ family who is ‘so proud’ of her

McManes is one of Thomas’ most vocal supporters as he’s attended and cheered her on at a number of her meets and trials leading up to the Paris Games. But he’s not the only person in his family who is a huge supporter of Thomas. His mother is also a big fan of his girlfriend.

Lori attended the Olympic trials with her son to see Thomas in action last June. And after she won the women’s 200 meter, Lori posted about how happy and proud she is to be on Team Gabby.

“No words can describe these USA Olympic Trials. Just incredible. Every single athlete has given up so much and worked harder than I can even imagine to get to this point. They are all amazing! We are SO PROUD to be TEAM GABBY. That win yesterday was hard! Incredible talent on the line. We are so happy Gabby will represent our great country on Team USA. Can’t wait to cheer her on IN PARIS! Love you sweet Gabby,” Lori wrote via Instagram with hearts, a medal, and kiss emojis.
