Who Is Olympic Track and Field Star Sydney McLaughlin’s Husband, Andre Levrone?
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is a sprinter and hurdler. The former University of Kentucky track star is the world record holder in the women’s 400m hurdles and an Olympic medalist.
McLaughlin entered the 2024 Paris Games as the favorite to take home another gold, and she did just that. Someone who was there cheering her on every step of the way was her husband. Here’s more about Andre Levrone Jr. and why you may recognize him.
When the couple met and got married
McLaughlin and Levrone started talking through social media in 2020 after he commented on a photo she posted. The two decided to meet up in person and according to McLaughlin, she knew he was the one just a few days after they met. Levrone was also smitten and said by the third date, he was absolutely positive he wanted to be with her for the rest of his life.
In August 2021, Levrone proposed at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, and McLaughlin happily accepted.
They tied the knot in May 2022 at Early Mountain Vineyards in Madison, Virginia. The bride wore a Pallas Couture gown and a veil by Vera Wang with Jimmy Choo heels, while the groom donned a suit by Brian Alexander with Salvatore Ferragamo shoes.
Levrone is a retired athlete
Levrone was born on March 9, 1995, in Laurel, Maryland.
He played football at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School before enrolling at the University of Virginia. After graduation, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2018. The wide receiver also had stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McLaughlin appreciates her husband’s background as an athlete and that he understands her world.
“I’m so grateful for Andre because he understands the athlete life, the day-to-day, what it takes, and all the little things,” McLaughlin told People. “We’re very similar just in how we’re wired because of that, which helps us understand each other.”
Post his NFL career, Levrone has worked as a real estate agent and a project engineer.
Levrone loves supporting McLaughlin, says ‘It’s fun for me’
Levrone has been a fixture on hand and rooting for his wife at many of her races. He says that supporting her is something he enjoys.
“I have a vision in life, she has a vision in life, and we just kind of merged our visions,” he explained per Wona Concept. “And being able to just model that the two of us are partners and what I like to call ‘co-laborers’ in life. And in this season of life, me primarily supporting her and her dream and her calling is fun for me. And just knowing how supportive she is of me as well and in the long term.”
