‘Once Upon a Time:’ Which Disney Characters Appear Throughout the Series, Recently Added to Disney+
Now that it’s on Disney’s streaming platform, Once Upon a Time is linked more closely to Disney’s beloved stories than ever before. In fact, there are even a few characters, popularized by Walt Disney Studios, that appear in this drama series.
Snow White, the Evil Queen, and Prince Charming are the main characters of this series
In Storybrooke, she’s known as the teacher Mary Margaret Blanchard but in the Enchanted Forest, she’s so much more. Mary Margaret, real name Snow White, is one of the fairy tale characters transported to this magic-less town.
She’s joined by her Prince Charming, who’s known as David while he’s in Storybrooke. The villain from their story, the Evil Queen, takes the form of Regina Mills, the mayor of Storybrooke.
One of the main characters in this show, Emma, isn’t from a fairy tale
Just because this is a series filled with fairy tale characters doesn’t mean there aren’t a few new faces. The characters of Storybrooke are joined by Emma Swan, the “Chosen One” meant to free everyone from the curse put on them.
Turns out, Emma is actually the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming and her son, Henry is living in the same town. Henry is one of the few people who knows about the curse and is constantly explaining it to Emma.
Belle from Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’
It’s a tale as old as time — when the beauty falls in love with the beast. The story is a little different in this drama series, though. Belle is still an intelligent, well-read character, but instead of falling in love with a “beast,” she falls in love with Mr. Gold, also known as Rumplestiltskin.
Fans are first introduced to Belle during the first season. Back in the Enchanted Forest, she is engaged to Gaston even though she doesn’t love him. After her father makes a deal with Rumplestiltskin, she remains a maid in his castle. Over time, she falls in love with him, and that love follows through in Storybrooke.
Anna and Elsa from ‘Frozen’ even make an appearance
Although they don’t meet Snow White, Emma, and the rest of the Storybrooke residents until much later, even the sister duo from Frozen end up on this series. The two have their own mini story, with Elsa gifting Anna her mother’s wedding dress for her wedding to Kristoff.
However, Anna leaves for the Enchanted Forest, which she finds to be more dangerous than she was expecting. A few other Disney favorites make an appearance throughout Once Upon a Time. That includes Mulan, Sleeping Beauty, Captain Hook, the Mad Hatter, and Pinnochio.
