‘One Direction’ Tour Demands Include KFC, Ping-Pong, and Soft Toilet Paper

One Direction is one of the most popular celebrity boy bands of all-time, and remain extremely popular despite their high-profile breakup in 2016.

The members of the group are adored by many passionate fans, many of whom have cherished memories of seeing One Direction on one of their popular headlining tours. While the boy band was together, they embarked on a total of five worldwide tours, each of which resulted in sold-out show after sold-out show. While on these tours, the band had a unique set of requests for their dressing room.

This list of requests is known as a tour rider, and One Direction’s rider from 2015 perfectly sums up the boy band’s priorities. 

How did One Direction get famous?

The popular group came together in 2010, after the individual members were unsuccessful in the tryout stage of The X-Factor television show.

One Direction was made up of five singers and dancers, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. The five were placed into a group by The X-Factor producers, and eventually signed to the show’s label Syco Records.

The popular singing show put the five boys in a band partially because each of the members fit the idealistic pop teen idol image. The group first gained notoriety while competing on the British version of The X-Factor, which was hosted by former American Idol host Simon Cowell. Cowell himself took interest in the group, which became one of his most successful acts. After their beginnings in Britain, the five young men have only become more popular across the entire world. 

Who are the members of One Direction? 

While Styles, Horan, Payne, Tomlinson, and Malik were together as One Direction, the group consistently ranked at the top of the charts, both in record sales and popular award show wins.

During their time together, the group made millions of dollars off their five albums Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four, and their final project Made In the A.M. Besides the group’s fame for their work while together, they are also known for their work after their split. The members of the group are still on good terms, but decided to split in order to pursue solo careers and ventures.

Malik was the first to split from the group before the entirety of the group went their separate ways. Styles in particular has achieved massive success in his solo career.

The rest of the members are still involved in music, and hints about a possible reunion have been swirling.

While One Direction was still together, they toured the world selling out venue after venue. The group went on five tours, each of which was massively successful. Musical artists and groups that have the level of success as One Direction normally have unique tour riders.

A tour rider is a list of food, beverages, and any other amenities that the artists require in their dressing rooms and beyond for before and after their performance.

Famously strange and specific tour rider demands include the adorable in Joe Jonas’ 12 puppies, the strange in Mary J. Blige’s private toilet, and the ridiculous in Prince’s unheard of request that a venue’s owner to contract a massive five-bedroom house near the famous O2 stadium in London.

While the members of One Direction toured, their rider included such items as KFC chicken, a ping-pong table, and extra soft toilet paper, according to Marie Claire.

This specific rider was a part of the group’s 2015 “On the Road Again” tour, and also included a fridge fully stocked with cold beer.

When compared to some of the more outlandish demands made by other musicians, the One Direction boy’s requests are simple and doable.
