This Is How One Rapper Reacted When Eminem Called Him His Favorite Artist
Eminem is one of the most popular figures in hip-hop music. He’s been referred to as a lyrical genius for more than two decades, has more than a dozen Grammys, and is on the very short list of rappers who have won an Academy Award for “Best Original Song.” He’s also considered one of the GOATs in the rap community. So when a fellow rapper found out Eminem called him his favorite artist he couldn’t believe it.
Read on to find out what Slim Shady said about his favorite rapper.
The rapper Eminem called his favorite artist
Eminem has never been shy about paying homage to all the rap greats who came before him. And in an interview with KXNG Crooked, the “Rap God” revealed that at one point he wanted to quit the game because he thought he would never be nearly as good as Treach from Naughty By Nature.
“[Treach] was smoking everybody. When I heard ‘Yoke the Joker’ my heart sank,” Eminem recalled. “My heart sank, ’cause I was like, I’ll never be the same, as good. I might as well quit.”
On a live stream with Latino rap star Fat Joe, fans got to hear from the artist who Em publicly said is his fave.
How Treach responded when he heard that
During his chat with one half of the 90s duo responsible for hits like “OPP” and “Hip Hop Hooray,” Fat Joe asked: “Eminem says that you’re his favorite rapper. What does that feel like, when you got somebody so lyrical, a GOAT like Eminem saying you’re his favorite rapper?”
Treach was very humbled to know the “Stan” hitmaker felt that way and told Fat Joe: “I mean it makes me feel like I did my job. Anybody that I admire, all the fans and the millions of records and the tours worldwide and everything. It’s shows like we did something so when you hear from that caliber, it just humbles you.”
Treach then stated that he and Marshall Mathers “kick it back and forth, Eminem for his birthday, my birthdays, we be kicking in it. So it’s like mutual respect. He’s one of the dopest of all time, hands down. And it’s showing how the culture is so great. It expands. It brings everybody together, all races. Hip-hop brings everybody together. So that is my bro-bro … I love Em!”
The rapper Em thinks is the most underrated
When speaking to HipHopDX, Slim mentioned the one rapper he thought was so underrated because that man could actually keep up with Treach. That’s the late Heavy D.
“RIP to Heavy D man. I have nothing but the utmost respect for that dude,” Em said. “He was one of the most underrated rappers to me because he was like a chameleon because he could get on a song with Treach and keep up.”
