Congratulations are in order for Sophia Bush. The One Tree Hill star announced her engagement to Grant Hughes in August 2021. Throughout her time in the spotlight began while acting in the TV show, Bush has dated several famous men. But will her walk down the aisle with Hughes be her first time getting married?
Sophia Bush starred in ‘One Tree Hill’
Bush began acting in the early ’00s. She landed her first significant role when she was cast as Brooke Davis in One Tree Hill. Brooke, a cheerleader with a seemingly perfect life, reveals more about herself after she begins dating Chad Michael Murray’s Lucas Scott. Which later drives a wedge between her and her best friend.
Bush remained on the series throughout its nine-season run. Brooke becomes a celebrated fashion designer but faces obstacles in her life, like her controlling mother and a teenage foster child she takes in. Bush also directed three episodes of the series before its conclusion in 2012.
During One Tree Hill’s run, Bush appeared in films such as John Tucker Must Die and Chalet Girl. However, most of her career has been on the small screen. She starred in the procedural Chicago P.D. as Detective Erin Lindsay for its first four seasons. Bush’s new medical drama, Good Sam, arrives on CBS in 2022.
She married her co-star, Chad Michael Murray
The actor’s personal life mirrored her One Tree Hill character’s for a time. After connecting with Murray on set, the two began dating. Sophia Bush married Murray in 2005, staying together for just a few months before separating, divorcing in 2006. Bush and Murray continued to work together for years before the latter left the series.
Years later, Bush has decided her marriage is something she’s “not going to talk about.” “I’ve tried to poke fun at being a dumb kid, and whenever I’ve done that, it gets twisted into I’m talking s—-,” she told Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast. “I was a very naïve 21-year-old kid,” she added, “and that’s all there is to it.”
Not only did Bush have to work with her ex on One Tree Hill, but she once said those behind-the-scenes made the experience “really ugly.” “They made practice of taking advantage of people’s personal lives,” she told Dax Shepard on his Armchair Expert podcast in 2018. “It was opportunistic and ugly.”

Bush’s negative experiences on One Tree Hill didn’t all have to do with Murray. In 2017, she and several co-stars spoke up about the on-set environment perpetuated by creator Mark Schwahn, leveling allegations of sexual assault against him. But she also came out of the show with some close friendships.
In 2021, Bush and her former co-stars, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz, started a One Tree Hill rewatch podcast, Drama Queens. For the actor, this isn’t her first foray into the podcasting world. In addition to all of the guest appearances she’s made, Bush hosts her own podcast, Work in Progress.
