Only Murders in the Building Season 4 is in full swing. While Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), and Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) are back to solving crimes, it also means more memorable outfits from Mabel. Ahead are some of our favorite looks of Mabel’s so far in season 4 featuring her tried-and-true sweater and coat combo. Plus, where the character gets her envy-inducing wardrobe.

1. Mabel’s pink sweater and patchwork coat on ‘Only Murders in the Building’

Seen in episodes four and five of Only Murders in the Building Season 4—it’s such a good outfit they had to show it twice—Mabel wore a pink and red button-down sweater underneath a suede patchwork coat.

Knits? Check. Statement coat? Check. It has all the makings of a Mabel look. The hint of red in her sweater, tied together with the red in her coat, is perfection. For those hoping to get the look, the exact Rixo piece, is sold out (via WornOnTV).

2 Mabel’s sweaters: striped sweater and black coat

While coming across a familiar face in Glen Stubbins (Paul Rudd), the late Ben Glenroy’s former stuntperson, in Only Murders in the Building Season 4 Episode 4: “The Stunt Man,” Mabel stuck to her sweater and coat outfit formula. She wore a striped knit polo sweater with a cozy-looking black sherpa coat.

OK, so Mabel’s outerwear might be considered more of a jacket—or even a blazer. But it’s too good of a look not to feature. While trying to dig up some clues, she wore an olive-colored collared jacket with a printed mini skirt. And, in true Mabel fashion, a knit in the form of a sleek black turtleneck.

4 Mabel’s yellow sweater makes a nod to the pilot

This one had to be included in the round-up simply because it’s a throwback to Mabel’s mustard yellow look from the pilot episode, which she accessorized with red headphones, sunglasses, and a beanie. (Look for Eva Longoria, the movie version of Mabel, in the exact look.)

This time around, when Charles, Mabel, and Oliver joined their movie counterparts for a photo shoot, Mabel wore a remarkably similar outfit consisting of a long-sleeved yellow sweater and plaid pants. Not quite the original look, but very much two pieces that show up in her wardrobe again and again.

Her ‘high-end’ clothes on ‘Only Murders in the Building’ come from her aunt

So, how does Mabel afford statement coat after statement coat and a seemingly endless supply of cozy knits? According to Dana Covarrubias, the show’s head costume designer, it’s all thanks to Mabel’s aunt. Viewers know her as the never-seen relative whose apartment Mabel lived in at The Arconia until she was forced to leave when it went up for sale.

“We have a joke in the costume department that this show is no longer about murder mysteries. This is a show about coats,” Covarrubias previously told W. “We almost never put her in the same coat. I think we’ve only repeated a coat twice, and it is a little unrealistic.”

To make up for it, Covarrubias and John Hoffman, the show’s creator, came up with a backstory. “We decided that since Mabel’s living in her fabulous aunt’s apartment,” the costume designer said, “she’s borrowing clothes from her aunt’s closet, filled with some of these beautiful high-end pieces.”
