‘Orchestrating My Life’: How To Watch Rick Springfield’s Concert Movie This Valentine’s Day
Singer-songwriter Rick Springfield’s album Working Class Dog is celebrating 40 years in 2021. To commemorate the occasion, Springfield will release a special concert film on Feb. 14, 2021. Find out how you can stream the pay-per-view Springfield concert.
‘Working Class Dog’ turns 40 on Feb. 24
Springfield’s Grammy-nominated album Working Class Dog was released on Feb. 24, 1981. Many fans know the album’s hit single “Jessie’s Girl,” which won Springfield the Grammy for Male Rock Vocal Performance in 1982.
During a phone call with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Springfield talked about the album anniversary and what it was like creating the “short, hooky” songs for Working Class Dog.
Ironically when he was writing the album, Springfield didn’t think he would land a record deal. He was balancing music and his acting career at the time, playing the role of Dr. Noah Drake on the hit soap opera General Hospital. He didn’t write the album to become famous.
“I wrote [Working Class Dog] to put a three piece band together and go play in the LA clubs,” he explained. “That’s why I wanted three minute songs with hooks. If you didn’t like this one, there’s another one coming right up.” Fortunately, the album took off and made Springfield a household name.
In celebration of his “Year of the Dog,” the grammy-awarding winning artist is releasing a special film on Valentine’s Day.
Rick Springfield’s ‘Orchestrating My Life’ album released in May 2019
In March of 2019, Springfield released Orchestrating My Life, a collection of his biggest hits arranged for a symphony by noted German arranger and conductor Wolf Kerschek. Now, those songs are part of a live concert film of the same name.
“This film premiere will kick off a big year I have planned to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of my album Working Class Dog,” Springfield said in a release about the movie. “I’m hoping to have as much fun with my fans as possible, even without a clear plan for touring. Thank God for the internet!”
“I’ve been listening back to [the songs on Working Class Dog] — I haven’t listened to them in a long time,” Springfield told Showbiz. “But listening back to them, I remember the joy of making the album was incredible and I knew songs were good.”
Springfield never doubted any of the songs on Working Class Dog. He is excited to include fans in the celebration of the album through the release of Orchestrating My Life.
