Oscars 2022: Bob Saget ‘In Memoriam’ Omission Stuns Viewers
The 94th Annual Academy Awards took place on March 27, and an altercation between Best Lead Actor winner Will Smith and comedian Chris Rock has dominated conversations around the evening. However, viewers are pointing to another major upset online: the fact that beloved actor and comedian Bob Saget wasn’t mentioned during the Oscars ceremony’s “In Memoriam” segment.

Although the 2022 Oscars honored the late Betty White and a number of other celebrities during its “In Memoriam” segment, the ceremony failed to recognize one major star who died during the past year: Bob Saget.
Probably best known for his role as Danny Tanner on Full House, Saget was pronounced dead on Jan. 9. Officials later revealed that a head injury caused the unexpected loss.
Saget was an iconic figure in the entertainment industry. Many have mourned the star in recent months. So, it came as a surprise when the Oscars omitted him from this year’s “In Memoriam.”
Needless to say, viewers aren’t happy about the oversight. Many even headed online to express their displeasure with the situation after the awards ceremony ended.
Viewers outraged by ‘In Memoriam’ omission
With so much happening during the 2022 Oscars ceremony, many noticed Bob Saget’s absence from the “In Memoriam” portion of the evening after the event ended.
Once viewers started catching on, they took to Twitter to express disappointment and disgust. Many questioned how the Academy could forget to honor such a beloved star. Given Saget’s long-running career, he seemed an obvious celebrity to include.
Saget wasn’t the only big actor left out of the “In Memoriam,” either. The segment also failed to mention Ed Asner and Norm Macdonald. Following an already-disappointing ceremony, viewers seem especially disillusioned with these omissions. Sadly, the Academy hasn’t offered an explanation for them.
The Academy hasn’t addressed why Bob Saget was missing
Despite the outrage following Bob Saget’s omission, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences remains silent on the matter. As of this writing, the organization behind the Oscars hasn’t addressed why the actor was missing from its “In Memoriam” segment. And viewers may not get an answer to that question.
Screen Rant offered the best guess for why Saget might have been excluded. The outlet points out that the Oscars is a film-centric ceremony. Because most of Saget’s career successes fall into the television category, they might have felt it didn’t make sense to include him. However, viewers can say the same about Betty White.
Whatever the reason behind the decision, fans feel let down by it. Of course, the large-scale response proves many are still mourning Saget in their own way. They’ll remember his contributions regardless of this Oscars “snub.”
